Yes please, it's a struggle to decide, "should wood dressers and consoles, coffee tables, etc. be the same tones in a room?". "When to mix wood tones in a room?". It's hard to pick wood tones for furniture because trends change so quickly. I actually like mixed furniture tones. But the hardest part is picking what pieces should be what tone....the struggle is real lol

Kristen Thanks for all of your great ideas!! Can you tell me what the shade/color of paint is on the door about 1.36 min into your video? Such a useful video Kristen! Does the same rule apply for pendant lights over a kitchen island bench? Many thanks, Tiina
@Sunshine-fy4fzАй бұрын
I so agree with you on getting the height of certain elements correct, or it sets off the whole design of a room. For instance, drapes that don't touch the floors is like wearing a pair of jeans/pants that are awkwardly too short. And having a chandelier or hanging lights too close to the ceiling rather than lowered over the dining table or kitchen island (so it casts light on the items on the counter or table, which is why you have a light fixture there in the first place) makes it look like you installed it incorrectly (you didn't leave enough wire to hang it low enough). A good rule of thumb is that the bottom of the light fixture should be about 10" higher than the top of the head of a person seated at the table/counter. It's low enough to cast light on what's below without interfering with seeing the person seated across from you. Thanks for all your tips!

Amazing tips as always! I hope you can make a video like this for a bathroom! I'm going to renovate mine maybe this year and I'd appreciate tips like these, especially for lighting! :D Is it okay to have warm lighting in the kitchen? My kitchen and living room are connected in an open floor plan, and the kitchen lighting is 6500K while the living room is 3000K. The color temperatures seem to clash!

Hi Kristin: How does the Shark 3 in 1 work on picking up long hair - as a lot of it accumulates often throughout the week, especially on the floor near the walls. I am just concerned that it might get stuck in the brush of the vacuum. If so, is that easy to take apart and clean out?
@KristenMcGowanАй бұрын
I haven’t noticed any problems with hair just yet! it actually has more of a smooth felt vacuum head so it doesn’t seem like something that would get things tangled! We’ve been LOVING it! Our friend came over the other day and actually said wow you’re floors feel so clean I wish mine felt like this lol

Having too much "stuff" is a big obstacle to a decent-looking interior. "Stuff" makes it hard to store things away, to keep everything clean, to update interiors, or to "curate" display items, especially as one gets a bit older and can more easily look past it all. Ask me how I know... Great tips as always!

If you have cats, it helps to have a space between the bottom of the drapes, and the floor. Otherwise, it might become a cathair fringe drape, as they like to lay there. Just saying, there are adjustments for lifestyles.

Drapes that brush the floor or pool at the bottom can become dust traps if you don't have someone constantly taking care of it even if you don't have pets. Also drapes that go to the floor in small rooms can look overdone, in my opinion, depending on the function of the room.

I agree. I have a very small bedroom with large windows. Following the conventional advice for floor to ceiling drapes would be overwhelming.

I disagree about any light over 3000k not being welcoming and looking blue. 3500 light doesn't look blue, it's very neutral white and IMO it's the perfect clean light with no undertones and not so yellow it makes you sleepy👌🏼4000k+, yes, then you're into daylight territory which isn't great.

Your video was enjoyable and informative. I have a couple of questions concerning things that just do not work for us. One: We do not like an abundance of pillows on beds, chairs, couches...which may look good but end up being clutter in our small home. Two: Neither of us likes curtains that touch/drag the floor...it seems dirty and is more difficult when cleaning floors. Maybe we're just more into convenience than style. With that in mind, do you have any solutions to our preferences. Thanks!

When you're over 40, lighting needs to be 3000 kelvin, still warm temperature range because vision tends to weaken in middle age. Not a fun fact!
