I just got back from going to 4 thrift stores. Managed to pick up a gorgeous vintage painting in a solid decorative frame in gold and timber. Managed to pick it up for $6. Also got another artwork that I wanted new for $50 and I got it for $3. Crazy. I’m all for mixing old with new. The new furniture I’ve bought looks old with the style. Mixing in vintage brings in soo much interest and richness.

Funny timing. Just last week, I had moulding installed on my wall behind my sofa where I previously only had it above my sofa and moved my sofa off the wall by about a foot so that you get a glimpse of the molding. A subtle change but a huge difference.

I love your ideas, so beautiful. I have a small house with many windows which I find problematic for furniture placement e.g. piano & an inherited grandfather clock. Perhaps you could make a video solving design problems with small house sizes? You are very lucky to find great pieces in second hand shops, here in the UK, you have to have a good imagination to repurpose some of the stuff I see in the charity shops.

I'm not sure I think " looking expensive " is what every Room needs. ... and I've been mixing " Old and Newer " for DECAFES. ..Us older ones have known about this for a veryyyyy long time, because it adds warmth. depth and character to a Space. Of course, ones home cam " look expensive " with small touches, if thats a goal. Personally, I believe having your Home feel Authentic to you, warm, inviting and Comfortable is what may well " feel expensive " in many ways.

Well designed and cozy are what you get with her ideas. The word 'expensive" means different things to different people. Some people think it means ultra sleek and modern. Others (me) think it means nothing broken (better furniture) or so messy (lack of proper storage) it's stressful. I grew up poor, and living with patched, broken, jimmy-rigged, moth eaten things did not feel cozy. Perhaps she could have used a different word.

Please, where did you find the semi circle couch? I’ve been looking for YEARS!! Growing up in the 70’s, we had a full circle couch…so cool. Also, just two weeks ago painted my basement living room with bottom 2/3 of the walls being knotty pine (50’s ranch)a dark green, ceiling too. So cozy now!

Volunteer to help someone who keeps a clean home and has an imagination ' arranging furniture/pictures/what nots and such ' curtains/rugs/painting walls....colors etc and such and then go home and do the same thing to your home' keep experimenting in your home/family and friends homes. That's what I did 40 years ago at my own convenience but in my shop garage. I now have my own business traveling doing the same thing for others' my own ideas' designed and set up as if I were working out of my own home garage/auto body shop. So far this year I've made a little over 161/2 million after paying hired help/supplies/expenses etc and that's including paying all taxes.

you can paint just the ceiling! It gives a completely different dramatic look if you paint the walls as well! it would make it darker, but you could lighten it up and contrast the paint with a runner rug, wall sconces to add light & wall art!
