My Grandmother was a crocheter like his. So many beautiful afghans. Love and miss her every day. I love your story! Congratulations on your many successes!

What a fantastic interview! Kristy is part knitter, part therapist. She can make anyone talk about anything! And I LOVE Brookly Boy! I grew up in Brooklyn ( spent most of my youth on Bay 44th and Cropsey Ave. from the late 70's to the 90's). I feel so at home with this guy. I'm also Latina and had a grandmother who crocheted. My grandmother, like his, made doilies, tablecloths, fabric stiffened birds, teacups and saucers. My mom was more into embroidery and sewing. My first exposure to him was the viral photo of him knitting on the train and I was fascinated to see such a rugged looking Brooklyn man knitting! Or even just a MAN. I'd never seen that before. Now I seek them out on KZbin because it's still such an anomaly that I'm still fascinated. There is even a pair of women that take knitting into the prisons and the men LOVE it! It's all about social norms and expectations. I bet that if most of the men that disdain this craft try it just once, they'll at least see that it's not as easy as they think it is and is very mentally engaging. Thanks Kristy for highlighting this wonderful, caring man and presenting him to an even larger community!

Such a great interview. My hubs overheard it and said “man, that guy GETS it!” He was trying to get me to find my thing for years, telling me how much it would enrich my life. Nothing stuck in a big way until I found knitting and boy was he right. We are so blessed to have a passion and the community around it.

Love this interview! Louis you are doing amazing things and I am inspired by your passion for knitting and also love how you are paying it forward by teaching children to knit and as well as bringing awareness to Bullying( so many kids suffer in silence)! This is so amazing! I love your story about how it all began. I know that your grandmother must be so proud of you, as well as the rest of your family. Your Knit Studio is adorable and very well organized. Love it. Sheep earrings are too cute. Anyway, I could go on and on, but right now I am headed to your website to look at your latest designs. Thanks Kristy for sharing and bringing great interviews to knit folks and crochet folks , where ever we may live.

I met Louis in the fall/winter of 2017 by accident when I was at my LYS dropping off yarn and he happen to be shopping. This was before he blew up as Brooklynboyknits and I hadn’t made the connection until probably almost a year later. He’s been a huge support of me and has extend his hand in the gift that was given to him. Hands down one of the most real people in the community that is male I have met so far. So much love for this guy.

I appreciate that you guys talked about having conversations with children. Helping children to make decisions though 2 way conversation develops critical thinking skills that they can use their ENTIRE LIVES! Even when children make decisions we adults disagree with, its our jobs to help them figure out whey the decision they made led to the negative outcome. Totally not knitting related, but such an important subject.
