You sir FINALLY made Krita useable to me. Well useable very quickly. I have struggled so much with trying to learn all the new keyboard shortcuts. I have so many drawing programs it is hard to memorize shortcuts for all of them. I had no idea about the canvas input settings being a shortcut changer as well as the keyboard shortcut settings. That made Rotate able to be changed to 'R'. Basically I like everyone else learned on photoshop and then migrated to other apps. I really wish the photoshop compatibility actually changed all of this to actual photoshop commands, Still had to fix color picker zoom and rotate. Thats all I have found at the moment, but I'll change the rest as I find them. Now i'll go tell Marc Burnet how to do that as well. He tried Krita on his KZbin Channel and could not figure it out as well. Thank you! Subscribed! Now that I know that, I am going to go donate to Krita!
@wojtryb2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad it helped you, and thanks for donating to the foundation. We're all aware that having two separate systems for shortcuts is bad both for UX-wise and maintanance, but it's current technological limitation. Keyboard shortcuts are a provided solution used in many other apps, but it does not allow those long, modifier-based actions so those had to be implemented in separate, custom system. It would be great to have one, unified system at some point, but that would be a huge task, and it's not that high-priority, as the current solution "kind of works", if you know how to use it :)

@@wojtryb Even for a older user like me it's still a headache when they change a bit of the keyboard shortcuts from the previous versions. And hide my beloved Ink Pen 25 in each version update is alway a pain until I find a way to get it back again, there has also been other brushes in the past I have never been able to see again. Projects like animations takes a long time and I am still pretty much a noob so my progress is slow, very, very, very slow, so having your main brushes for your animation art style vanish out of existence really grinds my gears. I just hope that future Krita versions don't reject project files from past versions.
@wojtryb3 жыл бұрын
I don't think any of the default shortcuts was changed in this release. Brushes should not disappear between versions. Those from krita 3 should be possible to activate in settings > manage resources. You can always open files from the previous major version. If you still have those from krita 3, you have to use krita 4 to save them. But make releases happen only every 3-4 years.

I think Krita just kills clip studio when it comes to painting. For some unknown reason, clip studio doesn’t have hardware acceleration support. Because of that, some brushes tends to be slow and even the transform tool lags! Using a 5900x cpu and still questionable performance. At the end of the day I just come back to krita.
@wojtryb3 жыл бұрын
Well, I guess it's always more complicated than it looks at first glance. For instance no 2D app (PS, CSP nor krita) can use GPU for painting - it helps with display or some 3D models, but you cannot really gain anything for computing the strokes. And krita uses multithreading for pixel engine, but not for the smudge brushes - it's still not sure if it's even possible to compute this crazy algorithm on multiple threads, as the dabs depend so much on the dabs painted before them. But it's great you find keeps performance better - all those tiny performance improvements across the years add up I guess. CSP is now considered the main rival of Krita as unlike PS, they really care about new features dedicated to painting, and are quite innovative in this area.
@anumine2073 жыл бұрын
Clip studio does have hardware acceleration support hidden. However it's automically enabled. How it did even lag for you? My potato laptop with Celeron from 2016 works smooth on clip studio paint,and it's 99% weaker than yours PC.
@ontune17153 жыл бұрын
@@anumine207 I use alot of large textured brushes for painting, mostly at 12"x18 300dpi which demands alot of cpu. Sometimes just regular A4 Canvas. I dont really have much info on how clip studio utilizes the cpu. Maybe its just their engine. But I think Krita Pixel Engine is more optimized. Try it for yourself, open a large canvas at 300dpi and use large brushes with texture and it will stutter on csp. But if you are only doing lineart stuff then these stuff shouldnt matter. Thats not to say csp is bad or anything, it has so much amazing assets and UI also that new liquify addition is a great help. I just hope the devs optimize its performance more.

@wojtryb3 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear that. I have little comparison, as before I only used GIMP. Right now CSP is considered out main "competitor", as it's cheap, and they really seem to care about adding painting related features.

Na Windowsie wymaga dużej biegłości w rozwiązywaniu problemów informatycznych bez instrukcji. do you know where’s the option for import a reference? i can’t find it :(
@wojtryb3 жыл бұрын
Best way is to drag and drop the image and pick "reference image" or "new document". Reference images are part of the file but fir now cannot be pinned to view, only to canvas (though there was some work on this matter) If you open as a different document, you can then use subwindows mode (as shown at the end if the video) to have them separated.

It sounds like you paint on a layer with blending mode different than "normal", or reduced opacity. It may be hard to get help without screenshots and more precise description, so the better option would be to write a post on krita-artists.org

One of my issue with Krita, which stop me to use it, is whenever i draw something (as simple as making a line) theres a delay between what i put on the canvas and when my pen is of the canvas like a 2-3 sec... its the only program for me that does that... and my laptop isnt the problem...
@wojtryb3 жыл бұрын
It's hard for me to say what's the issue here. Assuming win10 I would check how it works with switched wintab/windows ink driver, and canvas acceleration of openGL/Angle. You can also ask on krita-artists.org

i just wish for an easy " export full configurations " setting, so you can export all the shortcuts, 10 brushes seting, etc etc " idk why krita randomly deletes everything on my pc.
@wojtryb3 жыл бұрын
Basically for win10 all the settings are stored in one file: %LOCALAPPDATA%\kritarc while all resources like brushes, themes and exported shortcut schemes are in one folder: %APPDATA%\krita\ By copying those two directories and then replacing them, you should be able to move or recover your configuration. It's highly unlikely krita deleted those resources - I would suspect some cleaner app or something of that sort. Since Krita 5 you can change location of Krita resource folder in the settings, so maybe consider changing it to location not so system related.

Can I somehow update Krita 4 to Krit 5? I don't want to reinstall all brushes :x
@wojtryb3 жыл бұрын
Installing krita 5 over 4 should not change your settings or resources. If you're really worried about them make a backup (which you should have anyway) by going to settings > manage resources > open resource folder. This opens "krita" folder which you can backup on pendrive or online cloud. But really, it should be safe to upgrade.

I don't know, maybe is because my laptop does not have the best memory in RAM so its always lagging, his this is kind of annoying TT
@wojtryb3 жыл бұрын
Bad performance usually comes from a weak CPU. You can check out how it works on smaller brush sizes (which usually kind of require smaller canvas size, at least at the beginning). If the lag is not dependent on the brush size, and happens even on realy small ones, you can try to switch wintab/windows ink driver in the settings, switch canvas acceleration between openGL and angle, and finally ask for more help on krita-artists.org

version 5.0.2 has arrived, I wanted to update but I don't want to lose my krita customizations How do I update without losing the customizations?
@wojtryb2 жыл бұрын
Updating krita will not delete your customization. On upgrade from 4.x.x to 5.0.2 you will only lose custom tags once, as they were changed significantly in the code. To keep your brushes safe, go to settings > manage resources > open resource folder, and make a copy of this 'krita' folder which will get open. Keep it on a pendrive or cloud drive. Your settings are stored in kritarc file, but it's location depends on the system you use. You can make a backup if it too. But update won't delete them.

I don't know what you did, but if you have this 'krita' directory with your presets (wherever you moved it), click on it, copy with ctrl+c, in krita go to settings > manage resources > open resource folder, go one directory up, delete this 'krita' directory and press ctrl+v to paste the right one you have in clipboard.

@wojtryb3 жыл бұрын
I don't really understand the issue. RMB used to open a pop-up palette, but now it does nothing on a canvas, but opens a context menu when you click it on a layer? Go to Settings > configure krita > canvas inputs and ensure that there is a shortcut of RMB for the pop-up palette. krita-artists.org may be a better place to seek for technical help though.

Hey so i upgraded to 5.0.0 from 4.3.0 and krita no longer recognizes my stylus' first button as the eraser. When i had 4.3.0 i did not have to configure anything for the buttons on the stylus to work. I use a bamboo ink 2nd gen stylus on a windows 10 touchscreen 2 in 1 laptop. Is there anything I can do to fix? In the tablet tester it still identifies the button as an "eraser" but on the actual canvas is does not switch over.
