Street Fighter 1 [Arcade] - play as Mike (playthrough)

This is a play-through using Mike in an alternate Arcade version of Street Fighter 1. Read on below for more information...
This is an alternative version of the Arcade game Street Fighter 1 which allows the player to select the enemy/boss characters.
Mike is the second American enemy opponent. He is a non-selectable character in the normal version of the game.
===== About Mike =====
Mike is a heavyweight boxer who looks to make money from fights in order to help the poor and to contribute to teaching children on how to box. He has a younger sister who is in hospital, whom he also fights to help.
Gameplay-wise, this guy doesn't have any special moves so therefore he relies on his basic moves. And thankfully, his basics are pretty good as they inflict very high depletion. For example, his low punches (which are his standing Kick buttons) take off 33% of the opponent's life for each hit, which means that 3 of these hits will defeat the opponent. His HP inflicts 40% depletion for each hit.
His punches are very similar to SF2's Balrog, so it's clear that Balrog is based on Mike.

---- He does not have any "special moves".
---- Despite the similarities in basic moves and the name (compared to Mike Bison), this guy isn't Balrog. He is a separate character as the 'All About Capcom' and 'Street Fighter World Warrior Encyclopedia' books indicates. Capcom themselves have also said that the two were always intended to be different/separate characters.
---- He is based on real-life boxer Mike Tyson.
---- In the arcade Street Fighter II intros, people thought that the fighter on the left (the guy that gets punched) is Mike. It isn't. He is actually a different character named "Max", as Capcom revealed on the Capcom Fighters Network website.
---- Mike is one of the 5 characters of SF1 who has not made an appearance in any future SF game.
===== Additional Information =====
---- In this version of the game, most of the enemie's / bosse's "special moves" are performed by holding Down or Down-Back or Down-Forward and then pressing a [P] or [K] button. Interestingly, this indicates that the enemy jumping strikes are a set routine/move, instead of a free move during jumping. It also explains why you cannot perform any strikes while jumping with them.
---- Despite selecting the enemy characters, the portrait of Ryu (1P) or Ken (2P) is always used for the versus screens.
---- When playing as an enemy character, after you win a round, the winning text will still say that Ryu or Ken won the round.
---- You can still play the 'break-the-boards' bonus games as an enemy character. However the enemy characters often do not have sufficient moves to reach/break all the boards.
---- Obviously the other bonus game where you time the karate chop will always be Ryu or Ken.
---- When you complete the game with an enemy character, it will still use Ryu's or Ken's portraits for the "king of the hill" victory message.

Really love this series of videos! Mike’s video in particular. The SF1 machines I played on as a kid were always set to the 2-country select. I always picked japan to start because my games would often end when I got to Mike. His standing hook punch is devastating against jumping cpu characters!

I used to rake up a lot of points with Mike. I would throw fireballs at him which he would block but still took a little damage from him. I would get 5000 points for each fireball I threw at him. I would have Mike trapped in the right hand corner just blocking fireball after fireball until finally when I had him down to just one tiny bar of energy then I would blow him away full force with one last fire ball. It took unblocked 3 fireballs to put Mike down and ten blocked ones to put him down. I would throw 9 fireballs at him on the second round and let him win the second round then on round 3 I would repeat the pattern. My high scores would be like 500,000 or 600,000. People wondered why my high scores were so untouchable. I would do that with Lee and Getsu

A funny thing about Mike in Street Fighter 1 is that every time he crouches (or changes his crouching direction), he moves forward a little, so if you actually fly between all of the downward directions rapidly, Mike can absolutely ZOOM. This is referred to as a "kneedash" and it can actually be used for all sorts of things like dashing under Tiger Shots to punish Sagat. It is very rare that you see a character who can actually move towards you while crouched! I doubt it was an intentional feature since the AI never does it, but it's really potent and I highly recommend anyone with the Street Fighter Plus Plus ROM to give it a whirl!

If Mike ever faced Balrog in a boxing match, Mike would win. I always thought Mike in this game was the same character as Mike Bison/Balrog, but he isn't. Mike seems less aggressive than Balrog.

I think it's funny that in all brick smashing bonus stage. It's Ryu doing the bonus round. Then in board plate round it's Mike, but he doesn't have any jumping attacks so he can't finish the bonus stage. Also the Mike in sf1 was supposed to be Mike Tyson, but capcom couldn't get he likenesses licensed. That's why he is a white fighter in this game, but a picture of a black person when he is defeated. 😂 This game is so funny. I don't even remember being to play other characters beside ryu and ken. Is this some kind mod version of sf1?

It is Tyson. Capcom couldn't use his name because it was already tied to Mike Tyson's Punchout if I'm not mistaken. And to prevent even more of a chance of getting sued, they changed his name to Balrog. Mike Tyson did say he liked that they added the character in his likeness, but even Mike couldn't sign off because Nintendo already had the rights to his name.
