Check your wall sockets. You might want to replace them for the accessive noise you are getting. True unbalance cables are noisy, but not to an extend where its annoying. It can also be that your A/C is connected on the same circuit as your system - so you might have a ground issue somewhere. Your surrounding also play a big role in that. Are you near some satelite or cellular towers, Airport, Railway lines etc. First Check your wall socket connections and any extensions.

They're selling for $399 (for a pair) on special over here in Australia. For that price I just can't resist. Question, can I connect my audio interface (focusrite) to the balanced and connect my PC to the RCA at the same time? Essentially use them as my PC speakers whilst also use them for when I play guitar through the focusrite.
@stuff.church3 жыл бұрын
I don't know, I have never tried that, and unfortunately I knocked over my speaker stands and broke the speakers so I can't test it for you
@plaguesofwrath2 жыл бұрын
It *should* work. I know I did that with some Tannoy monitors I used to have years ago. Haven't tried it with my KRK Classic 5s, but you can set the focusrite as your playback device. If you're on on Windows, just click on the speaker icon in the bottom right of the screen and you can select your playback device from there. If you're on Mac, I don't know how to change the playback device, but I wouldn't imagine it'd be any more difficult than on Windows.

Is it quite good for mastering or need to buy something more expensive?

I use them and another pair of monitors for home mastering, but for pro level mastering you'll need a much more expensive setup and a fully treated room (at that point its better to hire an expert to master)

Hey you! Are you doing research for new studio monitors? Yeah I was too, a couple weeks ago. Lucky you, I can tell you a thing or two. I got the G3 today. Right out the box they sound incredible. Truly incredible. Barely any hiss even when given full juice from my Yamaha MX mixer with no inputs. I'm glad I went with KRK. But let me tell you a few more things... The G3 get HOT when playing them for extended periods. This is due to the AB class amps. If you plan on playing them LOUD for extended periods, get the G4 instead. They have a class D amp which will keep them cooler. I can't speak to the sound fidelity of the G4 but they are likely also excellent. These G3 speakers are definitely colouring the sound to some degree. They are not true flat when the knobs on the back are set to flat. But if you take the high and low knobs and bring them down one notch, they sound more neutral and allow some room for mids. A perfect pair of monitoring speakers should not be flattering to crappy recordings or sources. This is probably the letdown for the G3, as I've played some low bitrate / poorly mastered records and they actually sound tolerable - but they shouldn't. This isn't ideal for monitoring, this is more ideal for consumer purposes. Making adjustments to the knobs on the G3 will be necessary for flat monitoring. My suggestion would be, if you want a good mixed use speaker for both monitoring in a DAW and listening to music for enjoyment, you can't go wrong with the G3, unless you want to thrash them all summer long above 50% gain. I feel like these would suffer and die after repeated abuse of that nature. The bass is amazing for 5 inch woofers. I almost don't want to get a sub, but I will be anyway because I'm a basshead. The bass is accurate. Notes/frequencies aren't being dropped all over the place like cheap consumer speakers. These have a light up logo on the front of the housing. This might be annoying if you are using them in a blackout movie room. Which you shouldn't be anyway, as they are far too small for that application. The G3 come with soft pads on the bottom of the housing, so don't bother buying third party pads for desk utilisation. A nice inbuilt feature to have. Another key difference is the auto off function. The G3 does not turn off automatically after 30 minutes. The G4 does, and many people complain about this feature. I was tossing up between these two, the Yamaha HS5 and the Focal Alpha 50. If I had double the cash the Focal Alpha 50 would have been my pick, but I honestly don't know how I'd be able to tell the difference. These G3 sound superb. To give you a point of reference, the best speakers I own are a pair of KEF C55 (British made audiophile level stuff) and the G3 sound BETTER. Having said that, the C55 aren't studio monitors, and aren't 50W like the KRKs. Take that with a pinch of salt. Good luck, and enjoy whatever you end up with. Just remember, if you are going to play them for hours on end at high volumes, don't get a class AB amped speaker. Get class D for thrashing.

@somewhatsomething48823 жыл бұрын
@@stuff.church ok sorry. What I meant was simply laying the speakers on their sides as opposed to having them as they are shown in ads or vids. It's better for monitoring because all frequencies are presented to the listener at the same position (height in this case) creating a more integrated sound. It's the optimum position for most but not all reference monitors.👍
@stuff.church3 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I've actually heard the opposite, that laying on the side gives a worse image the vertically. Here is one article about it: www.soundonsound.com/sound-advice/q-can-my-monitors-go-their-sides
@somewhatsomething48823 жыл бұрын
@@stuff.church ok but does it say anything in the manual about the positioning? I have a pair of ALESIS M1 mk2's and the manual says laying them on their sides is the "optimal" way to set-up those particular speakers. Was wondering what the manual for the KRKs says...
