I own both speakers and like them both. Even with the treble controls cranked, KRK's can never reveal vocal, guitar and reverb details that the Yamaha's reproduce which are essential for mixing and Yamaha's can never produce the bass that the KRK's deliver. I use a sub with Yamaha's and bring it in as needed to check low end and its perfect. I almost got rid of KRK's but decided to use them on my second DAW station in another room that has no sub and its helpful checking mixes on both setups.

vwr32jeep Yes, now think about the adjustments you would do based on monitors. Your end result will be more like the KrK in this case. You add what you lack. Therefore, your mix will be fuller if mixed on the Yamaha’s when played back on most audio systems. That’s the purpose of monitors.

I've owned both now and I have to say the KRK Rokit5 G4 works right out of the box, and seems pretty versatile, just need to calibrate to room and adjust when you need to but otherwise is pretty flat. The HS5 in white is absolutely gorgeous in person, but one of the speakers didn't work upon arrival and the one that did work sounded really thin. Not a fair comparison perhaps but for looks, I'd keep the Yamahas, but the quality control at Yamaha these days aren't great. I ended up with a White Noise pair of the Rokit 5s and I'm happy with the sound.

I recently finished my home studio and was doing a big research on which monitors to get, mostly which are better for mixing (I'm working on alternative pop/rock, psychedelic rock, indie rock). As I went through comments a lot I want to leave my opinion for the next person who is in the same situation as I was. I went to check how both of these models sound in person and trust me, they both sounded really good. HS5 to me sounded really bright, good mids and yes they have lack of low's but it's not that they aren't there at all (Just get a studio headphones or subby in addition and you're good to go with them). On the other hand Rokit 5's suprised me with the brightness and clear sound as well, the mid's were great and I loved that I could hear the low end too. In my opinion they are good for both mixing and listening. I have a small studio room with pretty ok room acoustics and they sound just great. Just go and listen to them in person but remember, that room will totally change the sound. :) I personally recommend going with RP5G4 or if you have higher budget and love Yama's really much then HS7 will do as well really good in small studio with low ends and clearness of mids. In the end those are monitors by whom you must hear everything well what you have produced and are mixing/mastering.

The KRK does seem to have a fuller sound. I believe this is due to the better frequency response of 43Hz-40kHz on the krk versus 54Hz-30kHz on the hs5 thus having better bass. The mids on the krk also don't sound too isolated unlike the hs5. Interestingly frequency response-wise, the krk's is more similar to the yamaha hs7. Would be interesting to hear a comparison between the rokit rp5g4 and yamaha hs7.
@ManishSinghh405 жыл бұрын
Yamaha seems to be more mid range pronounced and is good for mixing vocals . Would help to listen those intricate details . There is definitely some tradeoff going on between yamaha and KRKS. Krk bass extends too much lower range and good for mixing hip hop and other genres which require us to hear those sub frequencies. But yamaha has its own advantage which I personally feel. Yamaha's has more clear upper mids and highs. And will be helpful in listening those higher end detail. But Yamaha lacks bass on smaller series (except hs8) . You have to consider this before making any purchase decision. On other hand krk has deep bass response . Unless you are planning to buy sub for yamaha's which cost you another 500$ its better to go for a monitor that is well versed in entire frequency spectrum.

In reality the HS5 do not sound tinny. They roll off early in the low end ( not as much as the HS50m) but you get used to it and compensate accordingly. They have a great soundstage, tight bass and clean treble, very revealing mids which makes them very good getting mixes to translate to small speakers. They are designed to exaggerate the mids, hence why you see them alot in studios as second monitors. A bad mix will jump out of them, highlighting problems in the midrange. Great as main monitors as long as you use headphones to get a picture of a bass, you can get great mixes from them. They are far cleaner and 3 dimensional than the Presonus Eris e5 I had before. They look great and they have great build quality. They are an industry standard for a reason.

So I'm very confused. I have a the HS5s sitting on isoAcoustics stands, listening to the samples in the video, I can pick up the intended sounds assigned to the KRK and the 'original'. So isn't the only thing that this video is demostrating is that the HS5 rear bass outlet isn't going direct to your receiving microphone, but that the HS5 speaker itself can cope with the levels of 'roundness' when you listen in person....??????? Help.

you gotta remember, the KRKS arent sounding like that with an unmixed version, im pretty sure the song is a fixed version playing thru ur speakers, the krk is NOT coloring the mix as much as the Yamaha. So the audio from the original is similar to what the KRK would produce when playing the original thru KRK speakers and then how it goes into ur speaker at home. So the KRK seems to be most accurately showing that it translates better. IF the KRK sounded this full with an unedited mix, then you would leave it alone and it would have sounded same here right? But this is a finished mix I think, so a good speaker is based on how similar the finished mix sounds on your monitor, the krk seems to have the closest sound for sure. Assume you just finished your mix at home or studio, and you have the KRK, and you played this song on it right? the "original" mastered version on your KRK and it sounded very close to how this "original" sounds on whatever youre listening to, then the KRK did its job, this video is showing you what the KRK produced sound wise with its coloration on a finished mix. The Yamaha is playing the finished mix we can assume too right? Yet that Yamaha playing the final mix, on your speakers, sounds more thin doesn't it? Which one actually sounds closer to the final mix your hearing on your random speakers or headphones? Id bet the KRK sounds closer, which means the KRK is simply more accurate all around. The Yamaha just focused on mids mostly and doesnt highlight the other frequencies as well. You would have to get used to hearing the thin Yamaha and learning thats how it sounds when its good and assume itl sound fine in the end. Whereas the KRK sounds similar playing a master, than how the master is played through our speakers, which means it is more accurate to the real world.

Ok one question : What we are listening to is THE ORIGINAL RECORDING (FINAL PRODUCT - MASTERED) and then the same sound played back and recorded through the KRKs and the Yamaha's, right (the original is not also played back and recorded through other monitors, right?) ? So what we listen to is how the sound of a mastered song is tranlslated in those two monitors. The KRK is closer to the original (mastered) sound. This means that if you mix - master the same song with the KRKs you'll have to boost the low (not only) freq less than if you mix - master the song with the Yamahas. So, the KRKs are closer to the "right sound" than the Yamahas. But this is not so true beacause they are both not calibrated, but they are set to neutral (flat). I guess that it would be more informative if both monitors were tweeked to match the source (original) sound and then compare the results and find out the differences between them. Am i wrong guys? Also, it would be a great comparison if one song was mixed and mastered with a pair of high end monitors by a proffesional and then mixed and mastered by the same person using the KRKs and the Yamahas.Then, using the first master as a reffernce , compare the result of the other two.
@heythere69834 жыл бұрын
I think what he is playing is the mastered version right, so our speakers are playing us our mastered version in our systems, real world. He recorded the KRK and YAMAHA playing the same mastered version. So that means, if you master on a KRK and you say ok this is the final product and this video shows you accurately what that final product sounds like, then a final product on a KRK will sound almost the same on our speakers, so the KRK translate better into the real world. I asked him this in a few other videos because he doesnt explain anything about the original track which makes the videos kinda pointless. He obviously doesnt wanna answer you. So idk, I think you are hearing the master version play on your track, and also on the KRK, which means the KRK sound with a finished product is very similar to the finished product on our speakers. The Yamaha sounds much thinner. which people say is a good thing, but it only highlights the mids mostly , so of course it will sound thin. Thats good to highlight mids in editing, like a microscope, but not good in what it sounds like in the real world. If this was a mastered track compared to the speakers showing us unedited tracks, then the KRK would sound too good right away, but im pretty sure the KRK is playing the mastered track too, so that means the way it is eqed sounds close to what you hear in the real world. And the Yamaha is a speaker you will have to learn more and learn and guess how that would sound in the real world.
@nano75864 жыл бұрын
You want to hear differences when it comes to the frequency response so you aren't supposed to EQ adjust so that both sound equally for the KRK and the HS5. The whole point here is to hear the differences and not make it sound equally. To my understanding you won't be able to perceive qualitative differences if the Mastered version is adapted to both.

The Rokit is clearly thicker than the Yamaha in the bass range, but the Yamaha is clearly superior in everything else. In particular, there is a clear difference in the separation and sound resolution of each instrument. I'm guessing that the Yamaha's low-frequency weakness heard in this comparison video could probably be easily remedied by equalization... I’m not sure. What do you guys think? I prefer the Rokit in looks... KRK's unique yellow woofer cone is very cool... very attractive... but you should still choose speakers for their sound! I decided to buy the Yamaha. But I think I will be happy with either of these two models. On a side note, I live in Japan.
