Ryan, nice video's. Looks like the baler does great job, can't say the same for thr rake you were using. It left lousy windrows that were so wide tractor tires running over hay. Also a lot left on the field, baler thumbs up, rake...thumbs down. Keep up the good work on the videos.

Hey Ryan thank you for sharing this video. Back in the late 50s my dad had an old Allis- Chalmers Roto-Baler . Considering the small round bales at that time , that was a lot of stopping and starting. Everything now is a one or two man operation.
@lukestrawwalker6 жыл бұрын
There's some interesting videos of the Roto-baler... good idea (sorta) but ahead of it's time and not too good of an implementation. The bales were very soft, too small, and the starting and stopping killed it, plus picking them up and storing them was a pain I bet. Later Rotobalers did offer a "continuous" baling feature that basically added some aprons on the front of the baler to pick the hay up and over and dump it back onto the windrow so one could continue to drive forward while the bale tied off and ejected... then the "double windrow" would continue feeding into the chamber once the bale ejected until it was full size and went to tie off, and the cycle would repeat with the apron taking the hay coming from the pickup and dumping back on top of the windrow in front... Kinda weird but actually Krone has a continuous baling concept that's not unlike it, in a way... it stops the incoming hay between some platform feeder belts long enough for the round bale to netwrap and ejected, before releasing the incoming hay to the chamber to begin forming the next bale... The Rotobaler vids here... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXPGYmR7mrhsopY kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWLEaqCtnpehi7M And the continuous Rotobaler here... kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJamq2dtgZiqaac Enjoy! Later! OL J R :)

For years New Holland's round balers had slats or bars instead of belt's. They knocked a lot leaves off the hay. And you could not make corn stock bales with them. Is the krone's a better design?

Nice... looked like it did a great job. Watched your vid here and Travis's as well, and it's really interesting yall's take on it. Not been a big fan of the 4 foot bales, but if you can put as much weight of hay into the bale as a five foot wide bale, then there's definitely advantages to the smaller package (denser). How did you feel it did with handling of the hay?? Did the bars beat it up more than belt balers do?? I don't know if yall had any mostly alfalfa stands or if they were all mixed grass/alfalfa stands, but I've heard the old NH chain/bar balers used to crush up and strip a lot of leaves and beat up grass hay pretty badly, which is why farmers moved away from them. Be interesting to hear your take on that issue... Later! OL J R :)

@benjaminwillson49886 жыл бұрын
Plastic not biodegradable
@blabtag37736 жыл бұрын
Thehunter 4 - So if it's plastic, then true. A hemp composite could be explored. Hum ...
@lukestrawwalker6 жыл бұрын
Netwrap is poly plastic like plastic twine, in a grid-like mesh. Much thinner strands than poly twine. The advantage is, you can wrap a bale in about 2 revolutions in the bale chamber. With twine the bale has to spin 1.5-2 revolutions, then move the twine tube over a few inches, spin another 1.5-2 revolutions, move over again, over and over until the entire bale is tied off. Some balers used TWO twine tubes to speed up the process, so each tube moved in tandem and covered only half the bale, cutting the time in half. But it's still EXTREMELY slow compared to netwrap. A tying cycle might last 20-30 seconds with twine, while only be about 4-5 seconds with netwrap. Literally takes longer to open the door, eject the bale, and close the door than the tying cycle does with netwrap. Plus, twine doesn't hold the bale together as tightly or neatly as netwrap does. Twine can make a huge mess too, as bales are handled some can get loose and caught on equipment or under tires and ripped off and left on the ground, cut ends left in bales, etc. Netwrap is connected to itself better and thus little to none is left behind if properly handled. A ball of cut off twine or a ball of netwrap is about the same to deal with. Biodegradable plastic twine is a PITA and not worth the trouble. I've tried biodegradable plastic twine (it's just regular poly twine without the UV stabilizers that protect the twine from solar UV rays, which enbrittle, weaken, and break down the twine over time. If the bales are stored outside where sunlight hits them, the biodegradable twine quickly embrittles and then breaks all to pieces when you go to move the bales in winter to feed the, peeling off usually with a thick layer of wet/spoiled hay on the bottom of the bale if it was sitting on the ground where moisture wicked up from the soil and ruined the bottom layer of the bale. Of course the biodegradable plastic twine on BOTTOM of the bale was protected from the sun, so it is still 100% fully intact like the day it was made, and thus creates a HUGE mess as it has to be removed from this stuck layer of ruined hay that is plastered to the ground with the twine in the middle of it. Any other of this plastic twine that fell off a bale and was protected from sunlight by say being stepped on by a cow and pushed down into the mud, would be TOTALLY and COMPLETELY INTACT and would still wind around disk blades and axles or mower disks and cut into seals and cause other damage like regular plastic twine can do. What a clusterfudge!!! Plus the bale now has the twine popped off and flopped everywhere and the bale is falling apart as you try to go move it and feed it or haul it. Couldn't dump that crap fast enough. We USED to use sisal twine for round baling but it too is a huge PITA. Yes sisal is a plant fiber and biodegradable, BUT, it rots from moisture and decay rather than solar UV embrittlement and so when you went to pick up a bale that had sat on the ground awhile, the BOTTOM twines that were in direct contact with the ground would be rotten from moisture wicking up from the soil and would peel off with the bottom of the bale, sometimes taking the strings still on top of the bale with them, sometimes not. The bales would be loaded on a trailer and hauled to the cattle and as soon as the truck got up to about 45 mph, the entire outer layer of the front bale would peel off in the wind like a tin roof in a hurricane, blowing away on the road... This would be a large loss of a lot of hay, and even strapping the bale down wouldn't stop much of it. Even feeding "on site" was a problem because, like the stupid plastic biodegradable twine, the bale was literally falling apart as you were trying to move it and feed it. Sisal prices were through the roof when we switched to poly twine and sisal has only gotten more expensive since then. Netwrap also holds the bales together better, makes them smoother and more waterproof if stored outside, and really is no more and probably less mess to remove and dispose of than twine, actually. It is usually easier to remove than twine by most accounts. Later! OL J R :)

What is the max speed at which you can bale? Is the speed dependent on the thickness of the grain? What indication do you get about the fullness of the baler? Do you get a reading about how much netting is available? What info does the farmer get? How does it compete with Deere and others? Cost comparison?
@MrSea2river6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Just did. That takes care of fullness of bailer. Max speed? How does it compare to others?
@lukestrawwalker6 жыл бұрын
That depends on a lot of variables... size of the windrow, hilly or flat land, size and horsepower of the tractor, type of crop being baled, whether or not the chopping knives are engaged and how many are engaged, how hard the operator wants to push his tractor and baler, etc. Assuming all those variables are the same, throughput is probably pretty much the same between brands. The only thing that might affect that is the robustness and capability of the pickup and crop cutter to feed the chamber, and the tying cycle (netwrap cycle) speed, and possibly the door open to close cycle time. Later! OL J R :)
@tedwpx1236 жыл бұрын
Nice video. Is it normal to have that much dust when bailing? Does the knives cause more dust from additional chopping?
@lukestrawwalker6 жыл бұрын
Some yes. Depends on how dry the hay is. Every time you "disturb" the hay you get dust, ie picking it up, cutting it (if you have crop cutter), packing it in the bale chamber, etc. later! OL J R :)
