I just hope he donated it to a wig place or sold it to them kind of thing. Your hair has a value depending on color, quality and length it can sell for different prices. Good quality Brown long hair sells for about 100 USD in CA, US. The thing is you have to keep it in good shape and most have to grow it for years to reach long enough for that price. Most seem to donate it to cancer things for cancer patients to not look bald.
