So glad to see this put up as that little interlude from Johnson is perhaps my favourite part of the entire documentary. Yes, Johnno, indeed they will. All of them.

What I find astonishing about this is that it is exactly how village teams prepare to go out against their local rivals, I'm surprised they don't finish with running on the spot counting to ten... I would have thought at Lions level it would at least be a bit more tactical/analytical. I don't mean this in a derogatory way, I love the fact that they are like 'normal' rugby players, although I never quite got into the "psyching-up just before a game" stuff... I remember one game when we were in the changing room beforehand and our second row was shouting at our captain "Motivate me!!!" ... Hang on, you've had since the team was announced, probably 2-3 days beforehand, to prepare for the game. You're obviously physically fit and good enough at rugby to get picked, you know it probably entails getting the crap knocked out of you... what do you want me to tell you that will prepare you better for the next 80 minutes? And anyway, it's the last 20 minutes of a match you need to get psyched up for.
@herb20782 жыл бұрын
They are elite level rugby players with the very best coaching. They have drilled and drilled and drilled everything a million times before this moment and spoke tactics until falling asleep. There’s no need to go over it all last minute before taking the pitch they all know exactly what is needed and what the strategy is. This is before taking battle and getting ready. If you’ve been at any level of the sport beyond village teams that’s pretty common.

Remember this was the 1997 tour . Sports psychology wasn't what it is now back then. The likes of Keith Wood and Johnno are natural leaders not taught how to lead which is the case with many modern players.

whilst i love all the players here, and immensely admire the passion and commitment, i dont think this is the way to rouse yourself for a game. richie mccaw's all blakcs always focused on calmness to execute under pressure and trust that you could do this. that you would give 100% commitment in a black jersey wasn't in doubt. still, 1997 lions makes for awesome footage

You completely misunderstand what the lions are about. The four nations coming together is the biggest disadvantage, not its strength. It’s a challenge for four countries to come together over the course of a few weeks, and be good enough to play a game. But hey, you think whatever you want.
