I tried doing a little more hand held video and using a different editing software. Not sure I love the results.
@kaoskronostyche99396 ай бұрын
The advantage of hand-held is the freedom to experiment with the lighting. Being able to easily and slightly change the angle and position provides more opportunity to use the light better. I think I also saw some filters being used also "looking for the light." I think you got some great footage of the blade starting at 9:15. You brought out the detail of the blade in the natural light very well and, I think, also used some filters for good result too. Anyway, I think you got some great results and I encourage you to continue working with hand-held. Thank you for another great review. Cheers!

Try to invest in a camera slider you will like results and freedom of motion...you can freehand, it's about have a steady hands and wrists and moving only your shoulder and core to move..like a human gimble.your wrists being the soft shock absorbers...believe or not holding your breath at times on certain movements helps a ton...I can get you some advice if you need..ive been shooting hand held for a long time...or shoot in 120p in slow mo mode and it will be smooth as well

Just for info guys, there are two “T8” steels out there. One is a 0.8% high speed tool steel that has massive amounts of tungsten for hot hardness and wear resistance. This is NOT what these swords have. They have a different T8 steel that is essentially W1 tool steel, very much akin to T10, also basically just W1 tool steel. W1 makes an excellent sword blade. The T8 with 14% tungsten would make a very poor sword blade and is quite expensive to produce, especially in a sword. Just so that everyone knows, most of these steels out there for swords labeled T10, T8, and K120c are just essentially W1 or W2 equivalents. K120c is a “powder steel”. It is NOT made with the powder (CPM) process. It is simply made from the powder of a simple 1% carbon steel. Imagine taking a bunch of W1 tool steel, grinding it down, collecting the bits with a magnet, and then using probably canister method, made into a billet. Vastly different than the CPM process. As a maker, I can buy 1095 powder steel, which is most likely what K120c is. It’s just 1095 powder made into a billet. Nothing special at all really, but don’t be confused into thinking K120c is the same type of steel making process as, say CPM3V, etc. I had some confusion early on, but it became very clear to me what K120c actually was and wasn’t when I started making knives. Carry on, MJ. Love the channel.

You're right about waiting for a sale. I think $600 is a little high for what they're offering here, unless your just a fan of the company. That javelin toss into the tree 🎯🔥🔥🔥🔥😁🤘🏽

Thanks for the review Matt…I will say that is the most accurate choji I’ve seen in a minute. For the life of me I don’t know why Longquan doesn’t sit down with the connoisseurs book of Japanese swords and just copy historically accurate Hamon-because what it looks like happens is one company does their “take” on say sanbonsugi and then another company copies that take and another that take, and you have these like, Longquan interpretations…they take a life of their own.

Great reviews Matt! I’ve never been a fan of a sword called mini that wasn’t in fact mini. J/K I may have not heard you, but was it T-10 differentially hardened or a different steel? I definitely agree that $600+ is too much for what’s “not” added to make it worth that price point. I always appreciate when you show everything you definitely should not use a sword for, or do to a sword, so thank you for that as well
@KF16 ай бұрын
From what I understand, T8 is similar to T10, though with 0.8% carbon rather than 1%. Munetoshi used to offer this steel on their $200 budget cutters. Nothing special, by no means a bad steel.

The nature of the test is mostly immaterial. What matters is test performance against other swords undergoing the same test. That gives the viewer a basis for comparison.

In my head tossing it at a tree is akin to having it struck out of your hand while on horseback or maybe on foot from a polearm or club. Ideally it holds up but that is seldom the case. Bends, rattles, twisting, and dulling are all common enough. Though sometimes the sword rattles apart. The kashira craks, tsuba breaks, or sword snaps.. Damage from the the tree is expected but the degree of damage is more telling regarding how well it would hold up in a battle or hard use. maybe..

Ran this by my READ IT (for some reason when I write the name properly YT deletes my comment) Katana group. So far the consensus is that they are overpriced anywhere between 100 and 300 dollars.
