I thought the reason the for the square stance was to protect from heavy leg kicks kicking down a boxers stance? I see the point in a side wise karate stance if you’re going to bounce out of range but if you’re gonna be doing this style aren’t you gonna get eaten up by low leg kicks? Asking geniunly, I study Muay Thai and mma in this style is really beautiful

I think this style is for close range, rather than long range attacks. It emphasizes the use of elbows, and you have to be pretty close in. In that range, you're not at risk from low kicks.

ahmedeox but it uses lots of low kicks. Most of the footage of these guys sparring or competing they’re not even in boxing range, they are in kick boxing range

@@ramseymodiri2752 I looked at the beginners punching video, and there he talks about the punches not being so important. I haven't seen the sparring.

The style specialises in low kicks - watch some footage of us sparring... The stance and the Yang Sam Khum are the basis for a very strong defense against kicks - focusing on blocking with the knees, but then also give very intuitive, fast and effective follow up techniques which mean that the techniques Pedro is teaching above are only the start of a counter attack. The Yok Khao guard as demonstrated above opens the opportunity to chose whether you retreat, or enter to use the close range attacks. When attacking a good Chaiya fighter, you stop trying leg kicks fairly quickly because it's one of out strongest points of defense (it hurts to attack constant knee checks) and Chaiya's attack strategy (again, please checkout the many sparing videos on this)
