Integrated Pest and Disease Management in kharif crops:- Several biotic and abiotic factors that directly or indirectly hamper the crop production. Amongst the different factors, biotic factors that includes insect-pests and diseases pose a major threat and if timely control measures are not taken then it can cause huge losses of agriculture produce. Hence, in order to minimise the infestation of insect-pests and diseases, plant protection measures are inevitable. During kharif cropping season, the important crops grown in our state are paddy, cotton, castor, pulses, bajra, maize, groundnut, sugarcane etc. which are heavily infested by numerous insect-pests and diseases.
Integrated Pest and disease management measures comprises of cultural, physical, mechanical, biological methods alongside use of botanicals and chemical pesticides. Therefore, depending upon the severity of various insect-pests and diseases, one can utilize management strategies either alone as single component or by integrating various management strategies through which excellent control over insect-pests and disease can be achieved, thereby minimising the losses caused by harmful insect-pests and diseases.
