Natural Farming is a chemical-free farming system rooted in Indian tradition enriched with modern understanding of ecology, resource recycling and on-farm resource optimization. Natural Farming offers a solution to various problems, such as food insecurity, high cost of production, farmers’ distress, and health problems arising due to pesticide and fertilizer residue in food and water, global warming, climate change and natural calamities. It also has the potential to generate employment, thereby stemming the migration of rural youth. There is science behind each components of natural farming. To understand the science may help the farmers to practice Natural farming in better and innovative way. As for example if farmers know the carbon cycle than they can understand that the ultimate source of organic carbon in soil is due to photosynthesis but not the FYM, by that way farmers can realize that maximum vegetation in their farm along with its incorporation can increase organic carbon. With respect to organic carbon, they can also understand that loss of OC in form of CO2 in summer season can be minimized by mulching. Thus, Farmers can solve their simple questions by themselves and improve their Natural farming model.
