सारांश : SCIENTIFIC PACKAGE OF PRACTICES IN PADDY CROP:-Rice (Oryza sativa) is the prime food staple of India and stands second in the world as the major dietary source of humans. Rice is grown in more than 100 countries with 90% of the total global production from Asia. Rice produces more calories and carbohydrates per hectare then any other cereals. India is the largest rice growing country and second in rice production in the world. In India, it is grown in an area of nearly 44 millions hectares with a total production of 93 million tones and productivity being 2114 kg/ha. In Gujarat, rice accounts for 0.89 million ha along with production of 2.10 million tonnes and productivity of 2303 kg/ha during 2021-22 (Anonymous, 2021). The rice growing area of the state comes under the districts of Ahmedabad, Kheda, Anand, Vadodara, Panchmahals, Mahisagar, Dahod, Narmada, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Surat and Bharuch. The continuous effort towards development and adoption of improved agro-technologies has increased the area and production of rice in the state. Now a day’s rice crop is grown in both kharif and summer season in Gujarat state and day by day the area increased. During the growing season the rice crop may affect by various insect and pests, scanty of rain or heavy rainfall, and several other biotic and abiotic stress problems. Sometimes the lack of knowledge among some of the farmers about the improved new varieties, the improved new technologies and injudicious use of nitrogenous fertilizers, canal water, agro-chemicals and to follow non-recommended package of practices may cause crop losses and hazardous effects to the soil and environment and also reduce their yield. Therefore, the farmers should be educated about the scientific methods and improved package of practices to increase the crop production to earn more profit at low cost and without affecting the soil health and the environment.
