Bottom line, the X-T3 is a great workhorse camera. I've had mine for a bit over three years now. You can't beat it's performance for the price. I use mine all the time for hiking. But, I've done portraits and sports as well with really nice results. You mentioned a big consideration that went along with the decision; the lenses and their cost. I looked at other systems before buying and when I saw how much lenses cost on most of them I new I would be able to afford them. As an amateur/enthusiast photographer that is a huge deal. Thanks for taking us along on your ice hunt! Have a great week.

The big reason for going with Fuji was the lenses. For the price and quality which are way better than other camera companies. No matter what X series camera you put them on you get the same quality.

Great camera and lens combination. I have the X-T3’s little brother, X-T30, with the 16-80 lens. I find the range that lens provides to be quite versatile. Almost impossible to go wrong with that piece of kit you have. Definitely worth a buy on the used market. Save $$$ without sacrificing quality or fun.

Definitely agree on everything you just said. I've had the X-T3 for the past three years and it's been fantastic. The battery life is my only gripe but I've got an extra two with me always and never ran into a situation where I didn't have enough battery power to take the shot I wanted. Absolutely love the horizontal and vertical tilt of the display and honestly if I was to upgrade I'd skip the X-T4 and move to X-T5 just for that alone. I've never really cared about the video features in a camera, I keep forgetting that X-T3 has them so X-T3 is still plenty good enough for me and my photography.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It's always awesome to hear from someone who's had a great experience with the X-T3. And yeah, the battery life can be a bit annoying, but it sounds like you've got it sorted with those extra batteries. Keep doing what you love and capturing those amazing shots with your X-T3!

I hear what you are saying about Fuji vintage XT bodies. I'm still using my X T-1 along with the first gen. of the X T-30. Living in the Sonoran Desert (Tucson, AZ), I do not get many opportunities to shoot ice. I'm inspired.

Loved this ice photos/X-T3 video Kirk. I was very fortunate to pick up my X-T3 body years ago when Fuji had it discounted to $999 and it's been a workhorse ever since. I've since picked up the XT-5 but I continue to use the X-T3 (along with an extra battery) as a second camera - particularly when it's not convenient to switch lenses in the field. Pared with an IBIS lens like the XF 16-80, it's a pretty good handheld in low light situations as well.

I have the same rig and I used the 16-80 on the X-T3 all the time and now I use it on the X-T5. Love them both.

I bought an X-T5 as soon as it came out, but still kept my trusty X-T3. I have it set up completely manual and added a collection of TT Artisan vintage style lenses for the complete retro experience. I use it a lot - it's so much fun to get back to basics and takes me back to my college days when I shot with an old Minolta on black and white film. 😎👍

I use my Fujicrons for a retro experience even though the manual focus is not the same really. If I use split image its close.

I agree, the X-T3 is a terrific camera. I was so sure of this fact that I bought a second body, one silver, one black with the thought that these will be my last cameras. I have no need or interest in 40mp, and I could see that the end of the 24-26mp was happening, so I bought another X-T3 to keep me going for years to come. I have never had any situation that the X-T3 was a limitation on my getting a shot and that will not change simply because of the fact that it has been superseded by two newer bodies.

I was actually considering this as well. I still may do so to save a lot of money. I'm not into videography, so I don't need all the video bells and whistles. It would be nice to have the bigger battery and IBIS, but not a necessity!

Always good to step back and have thoughts about your old workhorse. Our secondhand XT2 died a few years ago, justified and upgraded it to a XH2. To be honest we are still spoilt to own one because it is a great piece of kit.

I've really thought about it. I do own an XT3, but there's always the temptation to upgrade. But thinking about it I wouldn't really gain anything. A bigger sensor would be wasted on me. So, personally speaking 26 MP is just that happy medium that suits my style of photography, and I don't think I'll ever get rid of it now.

I just picked up my first Fuji camera. I bought an X-T2 from KEH and I really an enjoying the camera. The colors right out of the camera raw or film sim. are great, and it has a great EVF. I'm watching to get lens recommendations, and I'm enjoying your photos!

Love the ‘3’ it alongside my ‘5’ are the workhorses of my kit along with the X-Pro 3 being the ‘fun’ camera. That said, had Fuji offered a Battery booster for the ‘5’ , I am not so certain I would have kept the ‘3’. Attaching my 150-600 to the ‘3’ w/the booster feels so much more ergonomic and balanced than it does on the ‘5’. So in hindsight, I am glad that I decided to hang on to the ‘3’.

I loved my xt3, but my upgrade to the xt5 was definitely a great move. I shoot mainly birds with the xf 100-400 and the improved AF along with the bird tracking is priceless for me. IM not sure how much improvement the 40 megapixel sensor is, i thought the 26 was great. Both are incredibly sharp.

Yes, the X-T3 is still great for 2024. I love my X-T3 which I purchased 2nd hand several years ago. It is a great camera, very customizable tom suit my needs. I shoot Landscapes, Macro, Aviation/Aircraft/Airshows and more with great results. The AF tracking works great when you set the correct tracking option and Focus area. There is a temptation to upgrade to the X-T5, but the IBIS would be the only thing that is of interest to me.

Great video enjoyed it! I have the Xt3 now for a year and half when bought it only had 500 shutters count. I have the 18-55 and 35 1.4 I use it with the battery grip! The battery grip stays on my XT3 because I just like the way the camera feels in the hand with the battery grip! I would like to get the XT5 for the better AF even though I don’t have any idea how much better the AF is, and the better battery life! But every time I go pull the trigger on the xt5 I keep thinking no battery grip! And then I can’t! 😂 my question to those with the XT5 coming from XT3 how much batter is the AF on the XT5 comparing to the XT3? Is 20% better or 50% better? How much better is it? Because on the videos I watch the AF on the XT5 is still not that good it’s better but not great! Also the lower buffer on the XT5 comparing to the XT3 which has a bigger buffer! And I might had I am portrait photographer so this my niche. Let’s go, hoping to hear from those with the XT5 coming from the XT3 .
@KirkWilliamsonphotography
@KirkWilliamsonphotography 11 ай бұрын
The AF is much better in my opinion. Subject detection and eye detection is much improved. I use the XT5 for sports now instead of the XT3 because of this but also because I can do 15 fps. I used the XT3 for sports for four years and it was fine but the new camera is much better at it.

Early this year I bought an X-T3 to use for bird photography. The continuous autofocus results were very disappointing, could've been user error, I found the AF-C customisation settings very confusing and unworkable. Never gelled with the X-T3 for that reason. Have recently bought a Nikon Z50II which I've found to be a much better camera for bird photography.
@KirkWilliamsonphotography
@KirkWilliamsonphotography Ай бұрын
Birds are tough. Big lenses so you need on point AF. I found that with the 100-400 and the xt3 set on af-c and custom setting 5 it worked pretty well.

I have the X-t3. If I had to replace it, I wouldn't get the X-t4, but maybe the X-t5. Since I haven't lost my X-t3, I am sticking with it until the X-t6 which I hope has even better auto focus plus the battery, IBIS, flip screen and 40 megpix of X-t5.
