We did a day cruise on the Ashby a couple of years ago and it was in desparate need of dredging in places! It is a good canal for new boaters since there are no locks.

It's nice and easy but very lacking in local shops for most of it. Very long bike rides are needed.

It's a good engine, almost certainly older than the boat. They wouldn't have bought a new engine for a hireboat.
