Actually Kenny approached Lionel in Las Vegas and ask him to write a song a greatest hits album. Lionel didn't want to until he found the number of expected album sales. He already had the title and music. The Commadores didn't want to do it. He wrote the first verse and Kenny finished recording it. They were waiting for the second verse, Lionel was in the bathroom and wrote the second verse. One of his biggest songs. This was told by Kenny at tribute concert for Lionel Richie.

But when he presented the song to Kenny He changed the title to lady lollll and Kenny Rogers loved it and mad history with this huge hit.
