This is just basic cronyism. Those apartments would always be $1200 or less for a one bedroom because no one was ever paying more than that anyway. Giving them tax breaks for what they would have done for free because it was already profitable is a waste of taxpayer money. This is just giving tax breaks to people that don't need them. It's all our so-called government seems to do anymore.

Tax breaks are meant as a temporary solution, there are obviously many more problems that stem from this. Our education and health systems are two major ones. Side with the government all you want, but they’ll just as soon turn on you too.

@@smokeywilly4364 No. Maybe that's what your masters told but, they are lying. The tax breaks are made to help their rich crony friends. They will be given to developers who were already building anyway to make the same units they were already making to add to the profit they were already going to get on their own. If you can't see this, you should try opening your eyes. The working class pay taxes and have nothing to show for it. The money just keeps going to the top - the politicians and their rich crony friends that do no actual work. Unless you think stealing from the poor and giving to the rich is some kind of work.

Most these people make less than $400 a week. A one bedroom apartment for $1,200 plus utilities and they won't even have money to get to work or eat or anything. People making $1,000 a week with a car payment would struggle to pay that. Housing prices are ridiculous compared to wages.

I am a landlord in another state, so I have no horse in this race. It’s widely accepted by many (if not most) rental housing providers that what is considered “affordable” for renters is for the monthly income to be at least three times the rent. So for rent of $1200 per month, monthly income would have to be at least $3600. That times twelve gives you an annual income of at least $43,200. Then you look at what parts of the local population have that income to see how affordable it is. What they should have done to calculate the rent for the “affordable” units is to see what the annual income level is earned by the population intended to be served, and divide that number by 36 to get the corresponding monthly rent. It’s not difficult to do. But it just shows that these elected officials have no inkling of what to do when they just come up with a number arbitrarily.
@charleskaufman5826
@charleskaufman5826 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, That is correct, but why does affordable housing mean that the tax payer is paying the Rent bill for the people living there? The government is already giving the builder a tax break so they can produce the housing at a lower cost and then the government still comes in and pays a big percentage of the rent owned. It is time for people to start taking personal responsibility for their financials obligations, just like you said if you can not afford $1200 per month then you must find rent in another area that you can afford and start changing your own monthly finances, lose the IPHONE, CABLE TV, ETC. A Roof over your head is the FIRST bill that you pay and NEVER stop paying. If you make $24,000 a year then look at rent at $650 per month.
@stevebabiak6997
@stevebabiak6997 2 жыл бұрын
@@charleskaufman5826 - I can’t argue with that. Many decades ago the Section 8 program came into existence, and it pays housing costs for renters. Section 8 renters are required to pay at least 30% of their income toward the rent (and no more than 40%), but if their income is zero than the government pays the full thing. And that’s just one government program.

@Ty Dye Politicians are trying to increase the wage to $16 by 2026 but most likely that will end up an empty promise like always. The truth is that we don't have a sustainable and profitable market. Local businesses open and close within months. Buildings are being torn down into empty lots and what isn't torn down are abandoned buildings with no potential buyers. The mall here is struggling and will most likely close. The best job you can get here is a factory or warehouse job which has more demand. In short, there's no revenue from stores or local businesses. People make enough money to pay for housing and groceries but not enough to invest in entertainment which is what makes KC a hotspot. Kansas doesn't make enough in taxes to give back to the people through the market. If people don't make enough money, there's no money put into things like shopping, recreation, etc. If there's no shopping and recreation, the state creates less taxation to put back into businesses. Less business means less wage. What taxes we do get we end up using to fix roads. It's a vicious cycle and people are getting poorer here because of it. Not just that, but since there's no market and people are poor, most resort to crime for income. Our property crime rate is above the national average. I think the chances of being a victim of property crime is 1 in 30? (I don't remember the exact number). In my opinion, it would be better if KS legalized weed and taxed that. It's passing through our borders anyways. It would give us a small push in funding to restart our economy. It might also give us a chance to thwart drug crimes.

@@devynodyssey7734 Not sure which governor, mayor, or senator you're talking about. Gov. Kelly (dem) just signed a bill nullifying sanctuary cities. Most of our politicians are republican and have voiced extreme opinions on immigration. This isn't a largely contributing factor to KS economy. In fact, it's probably helping since illegal immigrants take contract jobs that no one else wants in KS. Immigration isn't the issue here. If we keep promoting politicians that say it is, we won't be able to tackle the real root of the issue. I think politicians just use immigration as a scapegoat instead of actually addressing and prioritizing key economic developments.

In Missouri those houses they are charging around $1,200+ a month to rent would only be in the range of $350-$500 a month if bought........ There is absolutely NO reason for rent to be that high.....NONE !!! Especially not for 1 bedroom apartments.......... Now as for buying a house "having a job" is only a small part of being qualified...... Besides a job you must have: 1) Decent credit...... 2) Down payment (usually around 10% or more)...... 3) Closing costs......... A lot of people who work don't meet all 3 of those.
