The science behind the Alcubierre drive...is...why send YOURSELF at the speed of light towards an object, when you can alter space-time, and bring the object to YOU?

i saw on a science review (in french unfortunately, but its called science et vie if you want, at the time i was young so i was reading "science et vie junior") which presented a probe which would use antimatter. To get the antimatter, they would use lasers (like you know, a strong quantity of energy in one point create matter and antimatter, E=MC² and stuff)and then they would separate matter and anti matter, then stock it via magnetic fields. Then, when the probe would have to be accelerated, they would reunite matter and anti matter and use the energy of desintegration to accelerate the probe. Ofc it s a classic acceleration, not like this alcubierre's warp drive, but i find interesting the way they would produce antimatter via laser. The problem is, to get enough energy, they would need solar panels... two time the surface of Paris. 200 km².
@julienr506310 жыл бұрын
For those who have problem for starting the engine, it's because you need to be at an minimum altitude (600Km for the big one, 900Km for the little), failsafe will desactivate the engine if you are below the min altitude ;)

I have faith that we will one day achieve this, and firmly believe that it is important for us to keep that goal and dream alive. We should continue to share this dream with future generations so that they may know it's importance and significance in how it can change our place in this universe forever. Keep the dream alive and never quit searching.

Fun fact: THEY'RE ACTUALLY TRYING TO MAKE THESE and looking at the science it all checks out well! If you look at the theories of vacuums it may be possible that there are super tiny particles we just can't detect. If you treat a clump of them as a sphere, squash the front end infront of you and stretch the back end behind you it'll try to go back into shape, therefore it'll push you. In soviet space, space moves you. :D
@KirkjaGrobbi9 жыл бұрын
Tobias Sigel I actually just finished my university grade essay on gravity so here's how it works: Einsteins general relativities states that on a 2 dimensional plane space is the x axis and time the y axis, gravity is given potential through mass being put onto is fabric like space, causing it to dent space and time (space-time), this causes gravity, which is a force of very strong magnitudes given a large force or mass is exerted near or at the centre of an object. Therefore the energy would be the kinetic energy transfered from warping spacetime to go places!

We have the technology, but not the power to make it work
@WildPhotoShooter8 жыл бұрын
Emperor Dogs, you are exactly right , the mathematics says it will work but it would need the energy from ten stars the size of the sun to do it. Can any one in their right mind believe that it is possible ? even if an advanced civilisation was a few million years ahead of us ? A star burns for ten billion years, ten = one hundred billion years worth of energy.......c'mon get real its impossible !

@quoniam4267 жыл бұрын
Not treally, just before the light emited or reverberated from the destination reaches Earth. So before the photo you can take from here, nothing more. That is why if we send warp probe IRL to distant destinations, the proble will have to stop from time to time to "refresh" the picture regularly as it gets closer to verify information on the target and eventually abort the following manned missions if the situation has significantly changed at the destination point. Question is, for far away destinations, getting the intel would take years, Or we could program the probe to take pictures until a certain distance and then get back to Earth via Warp to have the information transimted from within our solar system itself in order to get the info more quickly. As of yet, we don't have means of communications going faster than light. The idea is to chack if distant star systems are still there or if they already have disapeared... During the Middle Ages, the Chinese witnessed the aparition of the Crab nebula, by so witnessing the death of a solar system, but it had occured thousands of years prior in reality. And among the stars we can look at today, how many already have already died? And all around it is dead too, so potentially inhbaitable planets have already been absorbed by growing giants, supernovae or black holes...

If your ca'rgo is well inside the buble perimeter, there is no problem (otherwise your vessel explodes). The vessel jumps to warp regardless of its own mass, it is not a conventional propulsion.
