Truly a great work. The amount of figuring out for weights and TWR and the associated gravities etc to figure the different crafts while also being able to match what was left to what was going to be needed. ie after all you had already done with stages and gravity assists etc to have figured it for the specific stages needed and then the final small burners to just have enough to get your return capsule into orbit to rendezvous with the return ship was amazing. Also, with a few of those "lengthwise" shots of the ship from near the body I thought the Kraken was going to show up and do a cancan on all your broken rocket bits. Some serious disco going on hehehe ;~) Liked and Subbed.
@maccollo5 жыл бұрын
The lander was tested ahead of the mission. I was not about to take on something like this without testing that part thoroughly beforehand. The testing lander worked flawlessly every time. However I somehow managed to screw it up by accidentally changing the size of the landing platform after finishing the design. I also accidentally screwed up the propellant balance on the boosters. You can see the in the video how this almost ruined the mission in multiple ways, like how things started to explode from heating during Venus EDL. Thanks for the like and sub! I feel a bit bad though because I'm not really actively making videos :|

@RobinsonLaneScaryNed8 жыл бұрын
+racergsxr1 I'm sure it was more then that, since the video is actually sped up to accommodate the huge fps drops he was having.
@Snubbs8 жыл бұрын
+racergsxr1 well you can see really quickly at the end, when he hits the water, the UI disappears, similar to if the root part had been destroyed. Also, notice how the vessel that surfaces has none of the parts the vessel that landed did. Even if it was a rough landing and things were destroyed, at least a few parts should have survived to float back up to the surface with the capsule. I suspect the pod was destroyed at the end of the mission, but by the time you've actually gotten home and would easily be able to land via a quickload and parachute deploy edit, you're pretty well done anyway.
@eno28708 жыл бұрын
+Gordon Rammstein Yeah, the end was edited. Not only is it not the same vessel coming back up out of the water, but the camera view jumps slightly and the mission timer resets back to zero. So, sadly.. they all died. Darn government cover ups!
@Snubbs8 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Roney I believe the ascent from Venus was also edited. The teeny tiny final stage had a much lower delta V than that required to neutralize the relative velocity to the mothership. To be honest, after docking all the parts and making the long, slow burn to venus, i think i wouldn't really mind editing a few things in and out as well.
@maccollo8 жыл бұрын

When you cant get the rocket from the launchpad to Venus, instead take the launchpad to Venus and launch the rocket to Earth!
@stevenlittrel26484 жыл бұрын
When you think about Earth and Venus have about the same gravity, and Venus has 5+ times the atmosphere. You need more rocket to get back then you do to get there
Good gravy... You, sir, are nothing short of legendary.

300 kPa during Venus liftoff... omg
@maccollo10 жыл бұрын
It peaked around 440 kPa actually =D
@BobFitchKSP10 жыл бұрын
Crazy. If my launches get 10% of that then I'm going REALLY fast really low. Typically I'll peak 20-30 kPa. I guess I am also surprised you did not burn up on liftoff either.
@maccollo10 жыл бұрын
Bob Fitch That actually surprised me too, but the shock heating doesn't really kick in until the pressure drops to a few atmospheres. I think it's because the atmospheric pressure is already so high that the relatively small increase in the shock wave doesn't result in any significant increase in temperature.

Ahhh that does make sense once you think about it.

nah, many people just come here and saw, video of game video, but this video is looks like a ballet, if you know the theory: The Oberth theory, Tsiolkovsky equation formulas, math of window to planet transfer, colibration of transfer course between planet, Reentry maths, and much much much more, science. For those who play in KSP with FAR, and othar mods, that made this game even harder, and more realistic, this looks like a poem of science and math triumph. perhaps, this isn't posible to travel to Venus, the atmosphere is too density, and surface is molted, temrepture degree is from 230C to 470C, and weather is always unstable making landing a spacecraft is nearly impossible :(( and launch back, is totaly impossible. (wind speed is about 100m/s )

+UnderSky A hundred years ago, do you think people thought we could do a hundredth of what we have done? It's never a good idea to say something is impossible. Maybe putting a person on Venus isn't going to happen in our lifetimes, but it sure as hell will happen.
@imnotgivingmyname23898 жыл бұрын
+UnderSky Unlikely via current methods, but i'm sure eventually someone will find themselves walking around on it.

+Verdiss Hardly. With temperatures about 450-500°C. Thats slightly more then TWICE what you use to bake a pizza. Pressure equaling that of water in a depth of 900m on earth. On the completely dark backside, cause it rotates very slowly, its very cold. Also there is no moon to reflect sunlight and make any light, Athmosphere is hell. No magnetic field as well. so unfiltered cosmic radiation. Closer to the sun. It rotates even slightly slower then it circles the sun So a venus day (and night) is longer then a venus year. There wont be a person on venus. It makes no sense to even try. There wont be terraforming. Youre better off trying your luck with some moons of the gas giants. Its very hard to imagine there will be even working ELECTRONICS on venus for any length of time.. The russians got a glimpse of venus before their probes burned to death or were squeezed to it. Only when they basically sent a frozen tank did it survive on the surface. For about 2 hours. Unmanned landing probes that may survive for months on the surface are planned again. in 10-15 years. Its a fascinating planet. But everything that makes it fascinating, makes it absoluetly impossible (and pointless) to land a person on its surface. Or even a permanent structure. Oh btw: As a keen amateur in KSP; What an amazing video/flight. Very very impressive. And beautiful.

+AnDay5zlebt maybe since the atmosphere is so dense, it will be possible to make floating cities somewhere around 40-50 km above its surface? The temperature there should be ok, pressure as well. Acidic clouds, on the other hand...

What mod causes the shaking, creaking sounds went in re-entry? I love the way it looks and feels.
@Havoc20034149 жыл бұрын
Okay, so I figured out KerbQuake does the camera shaking... was the creaking of the interior edited into the video? Or can I find that somewhere.
@maccollo9 жыл бұрын
Morisato The creaking sounds were all added in post to make it more interesting to watch. In fact most of the sounds your hear up until that point was added in post. It shouldn't be terribly difficult to make a mod that would play these kinds of sound... Well to difficult for me, but not for someone who is moderately skilled at programming.
@Havoc20034149 жыл бұрын
***** Thanks for the response! The sound effects are amazing. Hopefully these can be added based on atmospheric pressure, descent speed, etc :) I will look into it. Any word on the sources of these sound effects?

I watched this video at least 10 times! And every time im watching it i see how cool is it. Really, Macollo, about half year ago, by this video you inspired me to play RSS. And yesterday i finally made my own mission to Venus. Shure now its impossible to take off from this planet in the way you did it. There is no rocket engine working in low atmosphere of Venus. So i used Torch nuclear turbujet engines to get my rocket to 45 km altidude
