Actually, these Ashok Leyland & TATA buses can't do high speeds. What we are seeing is, the drivers pushing these buses to their limits - I repeat 'their' limits, which is just around 90kmph. This, combined with the driver's recklessness and absolute disregard to human lives will make you get a false notion of 'high' speed. That is all. If you are a car enthusiast and have driven fast cars which can do 0 to 100 in say less than 10 seconds, then you can very well appreciate the fact that these buses are slow like a snail when compared.

So, oncoming vehicles give way by swerving out of the road, and vehicles behind them cannot overtake. It is very difficult to overtake these buses. They won't go fast, and won't let others go as well. പട്ടി ഒട്ടു തിന്നത്തുമില്ല, പശൂനെ തീറ്റിക്കത്തുമില്ല!

​@@Echo1Charlie03 I may not be an expert, I've been driving only for the last 21 years and have driven in a handful of countries only. Heavy vehicles have a better visibility to the road ahead for sure (owing to their height). This is even one of the psychology of SUV buyers (mukalil irunnulla drive cheyumpol ulla aa feel, yethu, athu!) Under what circumstances a car would want to overtake a KSRTC bus limited to 80 kmph? I think the answer is in the question itself. As a car user, I would like to go at 85-90 Kmph which is the speed limit in most roads here. Buses takes forever to overtake other vehicles owing to their extremely slow acceleration characteristics compared to a typical car. So normally car drivers who know how to drive would always want to pass these heavy vehicles and move on with their natural speed (at least that is what I do). If they are stuck behind a bus, the average speed will so so low. Example - when I drive Trivandrum - Cochin early in the morning or at night, I take around 3 hours. But if I do that during daytime, I take around 5 hours or even more. These buses don't care who's behind and for how long they are stuck behind, They will never make an effort to let a faster vehicle pass them, but will just swerve to the right lane whenever it is empty, so that they can start their never ending overtaking maneuvers. Thankfully I drive a relatively fast car (by fast I don't mean I do 200kmph, I mean I can accelerate quick) and I don't have to get stuck behind any such slow moving vehicle for long duration. Just one quick throttle blip and I am ahead of them when it is safe to do so.

Overall it's a night service. അത് ഓടിക്കുന്ന drivers ഉറക്കം വന്ന് ചാവാറായിണ്ടാവും. അപ്പോൾ അവർ ചിന്തിക്കുക എല്ലാവരെയും safe ആയി പെട്ടന്ന് എത്തിക്കുകാ എന്നാവും. അതാണ് അവർ സ്പീഡിൽ പോവുന്നത്.. പിന്നെ KSRTC Drivers Private bus ഡ്രൈവേഴ്‌സിനെ പോലെയല്ല.. I can't fathom how one can like the journey in such a bus. It is totally unsafe, uncomfortable and boring. These Ashok leyland / Tata buses move like snail (top speed is achieved in more than a minute and it is less than 100) and yet the drivers think that they are race car drivers. These are one category car users struggle to overtake in Kerala roads. They are slow but they won't let anyone overtake them.

I like to travel in Bus. Way back in 1992s we Used to have Thiruvalluvar Transport corporation Super Deluxe Lightning service Buses, that Used to ply between Madras to Teivandrum called Ananthapuri Lightning service that uses to travel at very high speeds. They never used to allow old age people. It used to be Hino Engine Bus. At high speed we get Humming sound. To increase the momentum suddenly they use to pressure and release the clutch and pump the accelerator. My body got Goose bums when I saw this Ksrtc Lightning service Driver pumping the accelerator to overtake the super fast Ksrtc. I used to hear the sound using my has phone. Again and again. Super❤

Oh yes. The driver is driving it very carefully with utmost regard to human lives inside and outside the bus. But unfortunately the roads are the problem. What an observation! This driving of KSRTC Minnal is nothing when compared to the private buses plying in the Kannur-KKD-Thrissur route. When I was a student at NIT Calicut in the early 2000s, I used to only take private buses from the Kozhikode main bus stand for my journey back home to Thrissur. If available, I used to take Kannur-thrissur buses, as they are faster. And the way these buses used to negotiate high traffic density routes as Kozhikode-Ramanattukara, Kunnamkulam-Thrissur covering the respective 12km and 23 km in 15 minutes and 20 minutes respectively in evening rush hour traffic was awe inspiriing for me. it was exhilarating watching the driver skillfully negotiate, often bullying their way through thick traffic by virtue of deafening horns and not so good reputation. For some people, the driving was terrifying. For me it was exciting. And for the 4 years of my studies and may be more than 200 such trips, I never had or even heard of one minor accident in these buses. The fastest trip had me covering Kozhikode thrissur in 2 hours and 15 minutes in a 10 PM Kannur bus. Fastest bus along the route at that time was "John Motors", with honorable mentions going to Vinayaka FP and Thamarai. Not sure, if those buses are still running in those same routes and how fast they ply the distance nowadays. Wish I could videotape my memories of those journeys. It would have easily gotten a million views.

The super fast bus in the front should have shown the decency to let the higher priority minnal service to pass. They don't have to show off, compete and struggle and invite trouble in public roads. Ksrtc don't have an internal code of operation for their own services, let alone consideration for oncoming traffic. This is how I'm also forced to overtake these ksrtc big buses all the time, but it is worrying that they don't have internal discipline too.
