So Minnesota: Mayowood Mansion in Rochester

Mayo Clinic in Rochester is known around the world, but many aren't aware of the historic home of one of the clinic founders.
In 1910, Dr. Charlie Mayo and his wife, Edith, built Mayowood Mansion for their family.
"Mayowood Mansion is truly the local landmark for Rochester," Wayne Gannaway, with the History Center of Olmsted County, said. "This is more than just a house. It was a place of emotion. A place of family spirit."
Charlie help found Mayo Clinic, and he wanted a home in the country off the beaten path. The land around the mansion is a beautiful blend of architecture mixed with nature.
"It was a place for Dr. Charlie to decompress from his really stressful but invigorating job at the clinic," Gannaway said.
After the couple died in the late 1960s, the home was given to the History Center of Olmsted County, which opened it for tours.
