Layne Staley is the only Rock Guru to walk this Earth who could sing exactly like the record live without missing a note. If vocal notes were changed it was intentional, wether him knowing he couldn't hit it due to his vocals being sore at that moment or just to mix it up but for the most part he sang just.. like.. the album

Man, I’m SOOOOO thankful you are truly feeling AIC. You’re absolutely right. Layne’s power came from all his pain. He was truly a tortured soul. The worst part, for the band, as far as I’m concerned, is that they got very little recognition during the first part of their career. They came from Seattle. The big grunge scene. But they didn’t fit the mold. They don’t fit ANY MOLD. Sound Garden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam. All of them got the recognition. Where as AIC was either to heavy, or just didn’t fit in. Either way, they didn’t really catch on until later. As you can see, Layne put 100% into all his work. It was just to much for him to carry. RIP Layne.
@them20025 жыл бұрын
They were just as popular as every grunge band during the 90s. The difference was that Layne made it nearly impossible to tour after the one for Dirt. So that buzz from the live shows wasn't there. I was very happy when they decided to reinvent the band after Layne died. They got to make up for lost time.

I was very fortunate to see Alice in Chains on Oct 17, 1991 at the Capitol Center in Landover Maryland as they opened for Van Halen on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour. At the time, the only song they had in the mainstream was Man in the Box. The entire arena was empty as people were buying beers and merch during their 45 min set and luckily I stayed in my seat to listen to them. Everyone of those people didn't realize the future legends they were missing. The band blew me away and Layne was absolutely incredible live. A night I will never forget for as long as I live.

I don’t know why, but I’ve spent my afternoon watching people react to AIC and in particular, Layne’s legacy. I’ve wiped tears from my eyes today. It warms my heart to see people experience what I feel when I hear their music. And please don’t take this the wrong way, but I especially enjoy seeing black people react to it. Layne and AIC broke through barriers. And hearing him today is hard. We lost a legend and I’m sad we won’t get to hear him any more, yet I feel the pain he felt being alive. It makes me wonder if he had never touched drugs, if he would have been as good as he was. So should I be happy that he chose to? I don’t know. So much emotion. I loved your video and reaction. Thanks!

Depends what you like. Chris Cornell has a wider range, but singers like Layne Staley and Maynard Keenan have a more consistent voice when they perform live. I prefer Layne over everyone else from the 90s. I like how his high notes aren’t a falsetto....the top of his range is just as powerful as the bottom. No fluctuation, where as Cornell is sometimes shaky up high. Maynard’s vocal style is a lot like Staley’s in that he doesn’t use falsetto to hit the top of his range; and his range is consistently strong.
@lavurei-5205 жыл бұрын
@@freeman7079 That is very true. Everyone knows Cornell had a higher range, but Live, is where it's at. And Layne delivered flawlessly everytime. His voice was also alot more powerful, Yes Cornell had a powerful voice too, but high notes tend to sound louder...but if you just listen and compare, very few singers can come close to Layne's vocal power live.
@chrisharris79315 жыл бұрын
