@@scarletcrusade77 Its not a requirement for any leader to speak a language other than that of their own country. The next American President should at least speak Japanese. Do you realize something ? Lets stop colonialism in the 21st century
@scarletcrusade77

@@Leo-hr7yq Lets stop pretending knowing English the defacto language of global trade, commerce & diplomacy isn't a real thing. There's a reason why international bodies/organisations use English as their defacto official language of discourse. You can virtue sigma; some BS 'colonialism' remark if it makes you feel good but its not rooted in reality. Also Japan was never colonized so it has 0 meaning behind. If the world superpower in culture & trade is China then Mandarin would be the defacto language instead and people would pick it up accordingly. Also show me where i said "its a requirement they must learn English"? I'm pretty sure my comment is highlighting the relatively poor level of English in a nation that has huge ties to the English speaking world.

I hope Mr Taro Kono, a Georgetown University alumni, will become the Prime Minister of Japan someday. He will be a great asset to Japan and her allies in the Pacific Rim region.

Why so he can ruin your country with mass immigration and bring forth all the issues the west is facing today? His foolish attitude on wanting to simply replace Japanese with foreigners to somehow keep the economy growing forever should disqualify him from running the LDP.

@@harryhonda2500 Actually, I have changed my mind. Kono was boring when he contested the party leadership when Kishida won. I support Sanae Takaichi, who is articulate, energetic, and witty.

This is a very insightful interview on both ends. Kano is a true progressive who poignantly articulates the issues facing Japan, most notably rapidly declining birth rates and the need to open up the country. Long overdue. Thanks for this KTLA

If you’re a skeptic, I would consider giving Kono Taro a chance. You have to realize that Japan is essentially a one party state right now. Whoever is the LDP president, is gonna be the PM. That means the LDP is able to select a leader who espouses their views as opposed to the Japanese as a whole. Kono Taro is essentially trying to reform the LDP from within. He needs to first become PM before we judge, and even then, he has to maintain a delicate balance of appeasing the various LDP factions, while also instituting changes he wishes to see in Japanese society. Honestly, look throughout the LDP, who else has a more viable shot at becoming PM, while also being a potential vehicle for positive change?? No one. Honestly, I was a major fan of the Democratic Party of Japan, but they really dropped the ball. They were inexperienced, disorganized, and were in power during one of the worst crises ever faced by Japan. Until another party can legitimately challenge the LDP, Kono Taro is the best choice for the people of Japan!
@scarletcrusade77

Its not a 1 party state its just the opposition parties can never unite to form a coalition government, have 1 party grow big enough to beat the LDP or in general be more appealing politically. The Democratic party took power in 2009 and held it for a few years but ruined their chance. Also keep in mind the LDP had many factions inside it so its not 1 unified party all the time, many LDP politicians regularly defect from the LDP to join others
