Many people can't afford to leave. I live in Louisiana and stuck around during Francine, it's the first hurricane I've stayed behind for in many years and I'm not gonna do that again, it was a miserable 3 days without power and that one was barely a hurricane. Fortunately, I can afford to leave but most of my family cannot. I didn't leave because I went to book a flight the day before and most were sold out, and I wasn't driving anywhere.
@Coolkc4563 ай бұрын
A lot of people retire to Florida because it's cheaper. If you settle down outside of the tourist areas, it's very affordable. But yea, if you move to Florida because it's cheaper to retire there, you'll struggle to relocate in the event of an emergency. Honestly, that could go for anywhere - regardless of where you are, it's not easy to evacuate when you're poor. I was not in an emergency situation. But a storm did a lot of damage and snapped over 40 power poles in my small local town last year and knocked out my power for 10 days in the middle of August. I have a pet rabbit and had to evacuate to a motel out of town because even the motels here didn't have power and the heat would have killed my rabbit. I'm on a fixed income and had to rely on my mom to foot the bill of my evacuation. I'm lucky to have her for that. A lot of people don't have friends or family to help them like that.

Afford to leave? We can’t afford anything effin thing in this economy have you been living under a rock
@Coolkc4563 ай бұрын
@Marli973 No, not living under a rock. I was one of the over 2 million people who lost their jobs and was unemployed for 6 months during the shutdown, and I'm still in a lot of debt for it. However, that still doesn't change the fact that Florida is a cheap state to live in. I live in Maryland, where a single bedroom costs $1,400 a month, even in the cheaper counties. I could rent a small house in certain areas of Florida for that price.

It happened during Katrina, they actually did find bodies with names written on them. People were told to do the same during Ida, but almost no one was dumb enough to stay behind, Ida was downgraded to a category 4, but those of us that left were expecting a category 5. 1400 died during Katrina, 30 died during Ida, the local authorities were riding around right before we left and made a pa in the city telling people to identify themselves if they stayed. My godmother said she was leaving...this woman has a phobia of driving, when she said that, I loaded up my car showered and packed and was gone within an hour, my house has over $100k in damage from that storm and the insurance refused to pay, we're in court now because of it.
@hjones38883 ай бұрын
@@peryoleWhat was the ins co reason for refusing?
@peryole3 ай бұрын
@@hjones3888 they augured no one was living in my house, it's the only reason in the contract that they could deny a claim. I had tenants that had moved out by the time they came out.. it took them 2 months to come out. Unfortunately the tenants wouldn't move out and I couldn't have the liability of them being there with a collapsing ceiling so I had to evict them. I gave the eviction documents to my lawyer to prove occupancy, I had the house cleaned up after tenants left. I also didn't realize I had rental loss coverage and wouldn't have noticed had they just paid the claim. Their greed is what made me read the contract and made me realize how much they actually owed, they now owe me $1400/month for every month the house isn't rented...

i live in Florida and in all honestly, its not that bad the only people who should be concerned are the people that live near the coast. thats pretty much where these shots are being taken. and even then i swear to you as long as your not dumb and are calm during the situation youll be fine. it sucks to say that alot of people are getting hurt and loosing homes here during the hurricane but you have to live here all your life to understand that each hurricane that does hit you get used to and it becomes second nature to just know what to do in situations like this. which is why most if not a good amount of Floridians arent really worried about it too much, its usually the people from up north that come down here for vacations and or from other states that freak out, and thats the truth. the people who dont live too far from the coast or even like 2-3hrs away are still effected but usually by the time hurricanes it, even by the time they get to the coast line they die down maybe to 3 or a 2. which is really nothing when you been hit by a category 4 and 5 XD. what im trying to get at here is social media trys to make hurricanes look way worse then they are. should you been buying groceries when it hits obviously not XD but like i said just have common sense, and you could literally jut go about your business.
