So here's the funny thing for me. I sold my 96 DR350 and bought a brand new 2016 Beta 300RR Race edition, which you rode. And although I totally love my Beta, I'm heartbroken that I sold my DR. Why?, not sure, I guess the sentimental value I have for it. It's what got me back into riding, it's how I learned to work on a bike...All I can liken it to is your first true love, once you've had it and it's gone you miss it. Even though you may have a much better replacement, you always find you have a place in your heart for it. Thanks for the video Tyler, hope you have a great time with the fam and make some awesome memories. Oh and by the way, Katsumi aint no slouch either, she gets after it, and so do you when your on her.

I made the leap from my first dual sport mint 2002 DRZ400 to a 2012 KTM300xc 2 stroke(in top shape with a few great upgrades). Only cost me 1300 dollars extra after selling the DRZ. KTM motto "Ready to Race" .... they are! And so easy to work on for KZbin mechanics. Also moved my 12 yr old up from his trustwothy Honda CRF 80 to a KTM105sx 2 stroke. I cannot lose him on the trails now. And picking up a 2 stroke KTM off of yourself in the bush half way up a hill....is wayyy easier than crawling out from that DRZ pound for pound and pushing lower intestines out your nether region while trying to get her up ;)

I’m essentially “restoring” my 2002 Xr650r, and while I have been in the thick of it, I found your channel and have probably been spending too much time watching and not enough time wrenching. But, while doing all of that I have convinced my brother to buy a DRZ 400 so we can ride when I’m finished. I owe you a thank you for getting me to bug him enough to get a bike and enjoy the outdoors on 2 wheels. Thank you man! Keep up the good, and inspirational work! Cheers from California

I bit the bullet and sold both of my WR250Rs and got 3 KTM Thor xcfw’s (500 and 350). Best decision I made. Stone reliable and ready to super moto, trail ride, mountain exploration, or enduro racing. If I want a long ds ride I hop on the 1090r. Lots of orange n the garage. I smile so much while riding I never feel dirty. Getchasum.

Riding Japan bummer. Got my 2012 350 exc-f with 60 hrs on it very cheap. Just added a new lithium battery and some nitro mousse for the wheels. Raced it in a Lubbock enduro with no issues. Amazing machine. So far extremely reliable. About 120 hrs on it now and starts with no problems. Hope u can figure out ur issues. Will get another 350 again n a few yrs. Uber Cheater bike.

Great video! I've dreamed about bike like that KTM, but it never has been in my budget and likely never will be. I flogged a 1989 Yz250 in the Vegas desert in the early 2000's and had a blast. It was certainly not high performance, but it did the job and didn't complain. My next bike will be a new DR650 and I'll be plenty happy with 20+ year old tech after some standard mods.

Great video! I ride KTM and have had a few other bikes prior to my 500 exc. I'm far from an expert rider, but the biggest difference I've noticed is technical uphill stuff is a lot easier for me. The bike really likes to stick to some pretty root filled rocky hill climbs like no other. It's also a bit easier (lighter) to pick up, which can add up on a long day or weekend for an old fart like myself. Their power can be unforgiving though as I found out the hard way. I still love it though, and I really do think it makes a difference in my riding capabilities for the type of stuff I ride.

I've owned and ridden a lot of dual sports and then I road a CRF450L and bought one the next day. Yes I'll have to replace the piston and crank every few years because I ride a lot but it's worth it to me. The bike gives me that Thor feeling every time I get on it. I was riding faster than I've ever been able to push a dual sport and comfortably. I lowered the dampening a little and its smooth as butter while still not bottoming on anything I threw at it.

New bikes really are that much better. I think you should give yourself more credit as a rider. You are fast and ride places some would just turn around because of the obstacles. I think your skill level has passed the bikes you usually ride but they are still awesome fun. Good to see you ripping it up and making awesome vids that show how much fun dual sports are.

Wow! This totally was NOT what I expected... I love the viewpoints and how you look at it from a logical perspective though. 8K is a ton of money, and I 100% agree that most riders will probably never use a bike to its full potential unless their paycheck depends on it. That said, the last time I rode my friends Beta 500 RR-S I had a freaking blast... so MAYBE one day that 8K difference might be worth it. For now... the DRZ does everything I need and then some :)

After starting with new EFI bikes and liking them...the more experience I got and better with a wrench on bikes I came to like carburators more. Iv had race bikes, but my '18 KLX250 Camo is my all time favorite bike. But, my skills past it fast. I just got done with an awesome KDX 200 for single track and now starting a '05 KLX 250 cuz its same chassis/motor as my '18 for my dual sport/explorer bike. I will have about $7k into both total, completely restored with mods.

Great video. Been enjoying your content quite a bit. Keep it up. Here are my 2 cents: The thing is you are comparing a old and used bike (which you then alter) to a new machine off the showroom floor. You can get a used XCF-W for quite a bit cheaper. And it won't be 8k difference.

Bikes are luxuries not matter how you rationalize the cost. Luxury is about how it makes you feel and that while feeling can be a grand sliding scale performance isn't quite as broad. So go with what spins your spurs and what you can afford, because luxury that get repo'd ain't going to make you feel good lol. Love the vid!

The KLX 351 is a sleeve and bore job. It is NOT stroked. I put the same kit on my HEAVILY modified 1996 KLX250R. This is Bill Blue 351cc kit from "B&B Cycle Restorations". I ported and polished the head, put on a Stroker rear shock and KX250 forks and triple trees, with a billet Pro Taper one on top. a Mikuni pumper carb and FMF exhaust. I have a set of Web cams not installed yet. I also have a stroked crankshaft I'm working on which with the bore kit will make a 385cc. I machined a spacer to go under the cylinder to make room for the extra stroke. I haven't tried this yet, don't know if the timing chain is long enough or what other problems I will run into. The other option is to have a piston made with a shorter compression height.

Where is this filmed? Utah somewhere? I have the 2014 Husaberg FE 350 which is set up just like the KTM Six days. Awesome bike. Just does many things well except go down the highway at 70mph.

The older you get the more you regret not spending money when you could. Got a 2018 Yamaha XT250 for $125 a month. In 5 years when I'm 67 it will be paid off. Then I can resell it as a vintage classic and buy another new one. Great video shots by the way.

Many of us can't afford the BMW, Mercedes, Diesel dual rear wheel pickup truck, Aston Martin, Ducati, etc.... But KTM/Husqvarna can give you that luxury/premo experience on dirt bikes regardless of your income bracket. This is a turn key premium bike that anyone of any skill level can appreciate. That Kailub Russell guy does OK on it against 450s too.

This feeling rarely lasts. I've never ridden a motorcycle where just riding it became boring and repetitive and it had to be either the destination, great track or interesting riding area that had to help with the appeal. Some of my friends just combat this by getting new bike 2-3 times per year and yes, if you can afford that, you will still keep the fresh feeling and excitement, but I've actually come to quite enjoy the fact that my bikes are just a tools for specific jobs and it's the things I can do with them that bring the appeal.

Great comparison Thorler... FWIW, I ride a DS'd XR400. It ALWAYS gets me there. It ALWAYS gets me back. But it's heavy, and kinda piggy, and I keep dreaming of a newer, lighter bike, with a Magic Button... After much searching, I have come to the conclusion that the only acceptable replacement would be a Beta 390 RR-S... But my XR is worth about $2K, whiile a Beta will cost me about $10k. Perhaps in 10 years, my Beta and your Six Days will be affordable to us mere mortals, and then we shall be gods!!

Being middle aged, I'd take the old klx any day. With the mods and some TLC you will never have the electronic issues of the KTM and you'll have a very reliable bike. Just my opinion.

I know what you mean, that's a lot of Duckets for a dirt bike but those KTMs are like a Ferrari in the car world. Delicious. That said, That is one sweet old Kaw! I like something that I'm not afraid to bash and can actually afford to fix.
