KTM 390 Adventure | Light is Might | Do not overload with Accessories

Hello,
The USP of a KTM is the light weight and power. By overloading this motorcycle with heavy accessories, we take away the joy of riding a KTM. A heavy KTM is no longer a KTM.
In this video we share an example of a KTM 390 Adventure that was overloaded with accessories. We removed most of it and restored the light-weight beast to close to its original weight with some useful and light weight accessories.
Hope this helps to convince you of the importance of "light is might".
Cheers!

Totally agree here. Thanks for the video. One thing though, engine guards are an exception here (OEM bars). They not only protect the plastics but they also protect the engine and can help prevent your legs from getting pinned when falling under the bike. Also engine guards sit low so most of the weight is low.

@dipankar4865 Жыл бұрын
@@bigbearbangalore yes fully agree with the forward lean posture , it puts lot of uneasy pressure on wrists, especially while downhill. Honda will surely modify this version like they did with Hornet 2.0 to CB200X. I'm an Enfield technician,really love the UCE Enfields due to their simplicity, comfort, torque and TALL gear ratios. 75kmph in top gear at only 3000 rpm for the 350 cc, and maybe 85 kmph at only 3000 rpm for the 500 cc. Not only oldies 🥰, but at 42 yrs I too feel the Enfields are unnecessarily overweight by 30-40 kgs. Heavy weight sucks everywhere except in straight line and good roads. But I still love the UCE Enfields because they can also be enjoyed at slow speeds , they have Kickstarter as well as a center stand 🤗.

Greetings Uncle. A stimulating conversation that rouses the mind of any rider or the would be buyer. As I've mentioned previously I ride Harleys, a 189cc dirt bike & XF250 SSR Dual Purpose. The XF250 dual purpose purchase 3 years ago was an economic decision and I'm floating an upgrade idea. Speaking of weight and age I'm 65 years old, 232 lbs, still in pretty good shape and I get it totally, the Lighter Bike hypothesis. As I was roused from my lethargic condition on this rainy, damp Saturday morning ( it's the bones man ) prompted by your humor and spot on illustrations I compared just the weight of the SSR XF250 to the 390 KTM adventure. The 390 weighs in at 342 pounds. The XF250 weighs 328 pounds. That's astounding ! Of course obvious is the engine size difference, the design and manufacturer reliability, quality and all that so.......... yes think it through and compare, compare, compare. I'm much relaxed about putting forth a little more effort when making all around comparisons in the near future. Aaaaaah, I feel as good as if I meditated upon a Ganesh mantra, "Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha" Namaste 🙏 No disrespect or harm, I DO meditation and chant.

Wow one more video on 390 adventure ❤❤ I have removed saree gaurd also. I have applied exactly same logic as its yours which you mentioned in video. What you said regarding weight is very much true. Only problem I felt with this bike is while fueling. There's small middle rod which creates big problem. Especially when fuel attender starts fueling very fastly it spills out. If engine is heat and just one drop of petrol on engine then that rider is gone. I feel Ktm should do something about it this.

Hello! I own a ktm adv 390 and let me tell you its a beautiful motorcycle. I am 5ft7 and the bike is on the taller side for me. But thanks to its light weight and good weight management + the electronic safety features, the bike makes me feel very comfortable at all speeds and all surfaces. Smooth roads, gravely roads, wet roads no matter what, rides phenomally well. Yes, it has a few cons.. 1. Low end could be better.. could have made riding better in the city.. but you can easily get used to the bikes character and it does not come up as a problem any more. 2. Stiffer rear suspension.. low speed ride suffers a little beacuse of the rear shocker.. but I tend to saddle on rough roads.. also I am exploring the option to change the rear shocker to the adjustable suspension from adv 390 SW.. hope this helps to make the bike even better. In my personal opinion, for our country and the roads we have, we dont need anything bigger than this in terms of both power and comfort..

@@bigbearbangalore While on the topic, allow me me pick your brain, sir. I found the upper body posture of the Classic the most comfortable for my ageing shoulders, arms and back. Which in your learned opinion, comes the closest to it, ADV390/250, BMW310GS , Pulsar 250N or any other light yet powerful bike. Honestly, the KTM ADVs intimidate me with their height, I am 5'9", but maybe the Meteor 350 (my current, after the Hiness and the old Classic 500) has spoilt me!
@bigbearbangalore

The closest would be the 310GS. And ageing body? Level up your fitness and skill by a little bit and you'll be fine on the KTM. The seat on the KTM Adv is the best by far, flat, firm and long. Cheers!

Congrats on the purchase. Happy to hear that you've kept it light. Bulking up a KTM with accessories and luggage cases takes away the USP of a KTM. An after market exhaust and a BMC filter will add that little bit of zip to throttle response. Cheers!

Though I do want to change because do I want to look back a few years later and wonder should I have ridden something better while I had the chance? 12.5kg is a lot of weight saving. During my college days the market was all about 2 strokes and rx weighed under 100kg all fuelled up. We would still remove things from it to make it even lighter😂 those days the legality of a motorcycle was not a major concern. For me personally growing up with a light weight motorcycle, i can never wrap my head around adding weight to it be it crash guard, wheel hugger, visor etc. light weight is like a real life cheat code for motorcycles.

Hi, VStrom SX doesn't come with Crash Guard. But I can get one from Suzuki, its price is Rs.699 and it looks just like a stock crash guard. Please suggest me. Should I go for crash guard from Suzuki showroom or JB crash guard from Bandidos pitshop.

@@bigbearbangalore Hi, i just installed my new carbon racing footpegs, however, there is one problem I'm facing and was wondering if it's a problem or something you should get used to. So the footpegs are chunky and a little bit outward compared to the stock footpegs to account for the adjustable portion. Hence my legs are a bit outward on both sides and hence unable to grip the tank like i could before. Also the brake pedal is inward now compared to the footpegs and therefore I'm having to bring my foot inwards to use the brake pedal and unable to keep my foot over them. Should I go back to the previous setup of stock footpegs or should I just suck it up and get used to the new setup and the above problems will be taken care of via more practice? Awaiting your suggestion on this sir.

Hello. When you wish to grip the bike, crank your toes inward and your legs will grip the bike with the calves and knees. And gripping is more useful when standing and these pegs are quite good for standing. Give it time to get used to it. Regards.
