Over 460km on one tank? That's doubtful, even with your fuel saving tactics. Never bled mine dry, but I'm refueling after 260km (just when low fuel light turns on) and it's consistently about 8 liters. So more like 360 to 390km on full tank.

Thanks for the comment! Did I say 460? Don’t recall. Anyway, so I was getting 31km/l. That’s roughly 430km on the 14l tank alone. Topping it off will get you close to 440 and the addition of my 1 liter fuel bottle for an extra 30km. So all in all it’s very close to 460/70 in a best case scenario as I mentioned in the video. But you’re right, a more practical figure would be closer to 400 though as we are not always riding like we’re empty.

@@advinjapan Indeed that makes sense, but as you mentioned at the beginning it's not healthy for the pump. What it shows however it's very impressive fuel range for this tiny thing:) Thanks for the tips and great video!
@advinjapan5 ай бұрын
Yeah, I made some edits to my comment to reflect your figure of 400 is very much more practical 👍. Thanks a lot! 🙏 I’ll be sure to pin this comment, good stuff.
@abominacja475 ай бұрын
Edit: I absolutely lied. Just after posting that comment I went for a spin on mine 390ADV and low fuel warning showed at 190km (29km/l) and fuel range is less than 120km. I can tell there's still a LOT of fuel in the tank. As this cannot stand, I'm going to ride it dry and check actual mileage.

Your fuel pump is not being damaged by running out of fuel 10-20 times over its life. Some folks get carried away over thinking things. Running the pump dry for 5 seconds a few times doesn't cause any harm. Love the footage of your travels. I'm all hopped up on Japan after getting into the new Shogun series on TV. And yes I know it's not filmed there.

Thanks Jack for the reassurance on the pump, duly noted👍. Glad you’re enjoying my adventure, more to come for sure 🤟🏻

I'm generally over 4l/100km (under 25l/km) in city commutes, but under 3l/100km (over 33l/km) when touring, without even trying to save fuel. I'm in Vietnam, so the top legal speed is 70 km/h. There's one bad advice in the video: engine breaking is more efficient (on fuel injected vehicles) than coasting in neutral / pulled clutch, because idling eats fuel and engine breaking (almost) doesn't. Google Deceleration fuel cut-off (DFCO), or check Engineering Explained's video "5 Driving Hacks To Save Money On Gas". Of course you can kill the engine, but I wouldn't do it, the savings are minimal (or even negative if you start again quickly) and not worth the risk IMO. Thanks for the video, the low fuel warning is definitely pretty early (and very dependent on lean - sometimes it shows low fuel when leaned on the kickstand but two bars when upright), and I was curious how far I can push it :)

Awesome stuff! Just want to say, I've had the 390A for coming up to a year now (in Spain), and you've been my go-to channel for great info on both specifics about what to fix and set up the model, and how to actually use it for travel and keeping fun in mind. Great job 🤘

Hah! Yeah, I always say it’s totally worth topping the tank off for that little extra bit. That’s probably what did it 👍. Glad you were okay.

Nice video! I'm always a little bit anxious as soon the low fuel light comes up... by the way, I have been in Nagano, during my trip in Japan. I came from Hiroshima to Osaka/Kyoto, then from Kanazawa to Tokye and stopped by Nagano. Beautiful mountain area, and once home to the Winter Olympics.

The light on my 390A comes on with about 80 miles of range left and I usually ride it until I have about 30 miles left. And even then, there is plenty of fuel in the tank when I fill up.

Yes, lots of reserve fuel in this bad boy.

I did the other day around 100 km on the low fuel warning and arrived at the petrol station with < 10 km range still on it. And that was riding on small and steep roads up and down.
@advinjapan5 ай бұрын
Yeah that’s about right, depending your consumption rate. I was banging out 31km/l so I got 140.

Great video I enjoyed it well. I was very curious, how far this bike can go from fuel signal come in. This ammount of kilometres from reserve is insane. Do you know any hack somebody how this signal let appear proximetly when 50km range left?
@advinjapan5 ай бұрын
Hey thanks a lot! Unfortunately I don’t. I’m pretty sure the low fuel light is part of the bikes software, so if there were a hack it would be software.

Thank you so much for doing this! Good to know there's more juice available! :D I usually fill up every 350 kms on mine...That's when mine says range 50km left...I've also managed once to get 34 to 35 km/l on a very smooth and straight motorway highway thingy and was very gentle :)... normally I get between 30 and 31...And some days when I'm giving the beans I've hit 25 km/l ... I plan to take mine to a track as soon as I'm able...Will let you know what kind of economy I get there! I'm guessing between 15 and 20 :D... Safe travels,fellow wanderer! :)

Thank you! Yeah 35 doesn’t surprise me, I’m running a lid filter and a 14t sprocket so that can increase fuel consumption. Yeah, definitely drop a post here for sure! Good luck out there and stay safe.

yeah that light comes on WAAAYYY too soon. i never ran my tank dry but with some math i calculated it to be around 80-100k left when the light comes on. its one of the most annoying thing about this bike tbh. if you count the bars of fuel gauge - 8 bars, all the warning lights come on when theres about a QUARTER tank left! which means theres like 3 bars of hidden fuel gauge! also, just another data point for you: ive tracked the fuel usage of my 22 model for about the first 8000kms, and ive found that the fuel consumption numbers given on the dash is around .3-.4 (L/100) better than the actual numbers i calculated. i usually fuel up around 350km for the tank and i get around 12l in the tank. i always ignore the fuel light and just trust my mileage numbers, and the fuel remaining numbers are fairly accurate as you experienced. another interesting fact about fuel consumption is i get better consumption when i 2up ride with my girlfriend than when i ride myself XD (i ride a lot more smoothly when shes on, and im a lot more throttle happy when im riding by myself) have you tracked/noticed any fuel consumption changes after you installed the fuelx?
@advinjapan5 ай бұрын
Lots of great details in here, thanks a lot. I’m sure this will be helpful for those reading the comments. Yes, it does come on insanely early, totally agree. And with my demonstration 146km. That’s practically a third of the gas in the tank🤣🤣. As for the fuelx lite, yeah maybe a little. But I put it on the bike so early that I don’t remember the fuel consumption before it. But have heard that it is improved.
