You said it. The forks make our break a motorcycle. I'm putting 48mm KYB SSS forks on my 400exc right now. These 400s are the best.

Mr Smitherz I love KTM's. I've owned 2 of them. A 250XC, and a 300XC-W. They're fantastic bikes, but you want to talk 400 thumpers, and Honda's XR400R will always reign supreme.

Hey, I did the same thing you did, just a little older on both bikes. I had a 2007 KLX250s with a two brother exhaust, dynojet kit, K&N intake, changed the gearing, it ran good, but just not the power offroad I wanted. So, yesterday I traded it for a 2004 KTM 400 exc. it seems to run good, starts right up, but seems like it idles a good bit higher than my KLX did. Did you notice this as well when you switched bikes? Maybe I just need to adjust the idle on my KTM. It has the trail tech vapor speedo, so no tach, so i'm not sure how precise I can get with adjusting down the idle speed. Any tips?

Yes I would turn down your idle but only turn it down in small increments at a time. Enjoy that 400 it really is trail muncher!

ya, i might mess around with it. Did your bike come with turn signals and a speedo? Mine had them added on to make it street legal. I am somewhat confused though. I see there are a few different 400 exc models (a racing one, a exc-g USA model, etc..) so I am thinking mine is a 400 exc-racing model, but not sure. Do you know if there was only one type in the US?
@C3HENRYS8 жыл бұрын
Mine came with the speedo and rear brake switch brake light but no blinkers. Mine was a exc-g which was for California green sticker approved.

Hi, I just bought this exact model and I'm a first time KTM owner, I can't tell from the video but does yours pop and crackle a lot when decelerating, mine does quite a bit especially when going down hills off the throttle also she idles a little slow and off beat and gets quite hot, mostly from the radiators, is any of this normal for these bikes. Has 288 hours on the clock, am I just being paranoid or are there things I need to adjust, service, clean and what not? P.s it is a beast on the trails!
@C3HENRYS8 жыл бұрын
Mine did the popping and from what I was told it the pumper carb on that bike means it is running good. LOL
@paulyt95738 жыл бұрын
I think mines running lean as it's boggy on low rpm and idling slow and funny, just going to re balance the carb, but I guess I'll ignore the pops then haha, too used to 2 strokes.

yes it does

Mine to. I would adjust the Air/Fuel screw? What I had was the JDFM040 - JDJetting FCR-MX Fuel Mixture Screw to seasonally dialing in the air/fuel mixture. Good luck!

@@jeissonmendez418 Street is easier on these bikes so I go 4 -5 rides. Dirt only 3-4 race 1-2.

@C3HENRYS8 жыл бұрын
+bullet ben It has plenty power but the 2006 400 Exc is a fast revving 250-350 feeling hit with more down low. Not as punchy as a 450 but fun for sure! The 400 has a very even power delivery across the rev range.
