Hey guys! So there's a couple things here. A few of you wanted a build series for the KTM, so here it is. Also HUGE shout out to Pilgrim Power Sports for bailing me out on this one, you can see just how tight that was, WAY tighter than it needed to be. I messed up removing it, it was rounded just a tiny bit but when I attempted to remove it, it just rounded even more and I passed the point of no return. If you guys haven't already follow me on instagram.com/theherorr I make random update videos on there and share lots of pics of ALL my bikes :) Thank you for watching everyone!

Also to add: This other episodes won't be like this one. I'm going to use more camera angles, and better lighting. How do I know this? Because I already have it all recorded and the quality is a big step up. So stay tuned :)

I am gonna add #4 Dont overtorque things. It can break so much. You have issues with that everywhere. it seems like people use a cheater bar on m8 bolts.

One tidbit for you, when you’re using A wrench your only grabbing two sides of the bolt. When the bolt should have all sides covered for example the closed end of the wrench.

on the ship I worked on as a cadet we had the same problem were a bolt was to tight and round in the inside. we managed to losen it by using a chisel to hammer a small line on the outside part of the bolt, after that we angled the chisel in a 45 degrees angle and started bashing it with a hammer. it completely fucked up the bolt but we did manage to get it off:)

That socket cap head drain plug is a known issue on KTMs, it does it no matter how tight you initially tighten it, the trick is to give it a good hard hit with a hammer, it is kind nerve racking the first time you do it.

I like your idea of making a build series. What else are you going to do to the bike?

I like to start every bike the same way, first get it right, do the maintenance and clean it up, replace missing things, and fix broken things. Then after that I do mods. edit: To add a little bit on what mods I'm doing, i'm going to be converting it to a supermoto, so SM wheels, also a trail tech vapor (to add a tach) along with a stabilizer, and more.

Awesome vid, totally agree with your comments on over tightening, seems to a "man" thing to do" the tighter, the more man you are. I've the identical bike with the identical bolt rounded due to over tightening. I've left the bolt as is and lie the bike on the side to drain the oil out of the screen hole, but your way is correct, well done for all the trouble you went too. You still running the old bird in 2018, still an awesome bike for the vintage, mine has about 14000Km on it with the original top end, not bad for a full race machine

Easiest way to torque the drain plug is to watch the crush washer squish. Once it squishes even a little, you're good to go. That's the real point of using a new one each time. I bet whoever had that bike used a few too many ugga duggas with his impact wrench.

Used to own a 525 EXC and absolutely hated the maintenance. I find most bone headed mistakes are caused because of laziness. I bet the previous guy used an impact gun (pneumatic or battery) to save some time vs turning a wrench or socket. Probably didn't even own a torque wrench either...

A little homework would have saved you a lot of grief, ride the bike until hot and then that pesky drain bolt would come out without issues, basic KTM maintenance protocol, it was not over torqued, not impressed with your vid, also as noted in another comment, need to lay the bike on the side to prefill and soak the oil filters.
