@canyouguessmyname152 жыл бұрын
@@alphawolf2993 The drz engine is designed for more durability and longevity than the ktm engine, it probably holds more oil too which helps prolong oil life. The ktm is a purpose built dirt bike with lights mounted to it lol. And the ktm engine is a race engine that's being pushed to the max of its limit which is why it needs its oil changed more often. Like my crf450r has a recommended oil change interval of 15 hours where a crf300l has an interval of 8000 miles.

I picked up a ‘13 500 EXC 6 months ago and have been very happy with it. The previous owner had the crank rod bearing replaced with the newer plain bearing which from what I’ve read is the only point of concern in the pre-2014 500 EXC’s engine reliability. I’ve picked up a bunch of stuff from Mike at Taco Moto as well. He really knows these bikes inside and out! It’s real easy to put another $5000-$6000 into these getting them fully set up. We have to ride a lot of pavement to get to our off road riding spots where I live and can attest that these are excellent on the twisties as well. ...even with 30 lbs. of gear/tools/food in a Mosko Reckless 10 setup. You really do need to balance the wheels though. The spoke mounted ones work best. I’ve also been running MotoZ RallZ tires @15 psi which give the best compromises of sticking to the pavement yet surprisingly good traction in off road terrains. Probably the best bike I’ve ever owned!

@@abacanabanana I rode a brand new 2022 KTM 300 X/CW TPI 2 stroke. That was an absolute blast to ride. Zero vibrations for a 2 stroke. I also rode a 2023 KTM 500 Six Days edition but that felt wrong. It felt really corked up and the power was there but it sounded weird, it vibrated a lot more than my 450, and just overall felt really strange. I think maybe once you get used to it then it's not bad but it was strange to say the least. I love my old RFS motor KTM 450. These motors are bulletproof but they can be challenging to work on. Doing a full top end rebuild on these motors are hard because you actually have to split the cam chain and get a new cam chain master link or an entirely new cam chain. The valves are easy enough to adjust though and all the maintenance is pretty simple.

I bought my 2013 500exc new in '13 they were going for $12k otd even after calling around to places all over back then the prices didnt budge they always sold out. I made mine a full build in '13-'14 with the 'right goodies' incl suspension mods (RG3) to allow racing it stripped for mx vet exp class, hole-shotting & beating the newest mx bikes just cant say enough about this bike it does it all. Stock suspension is a death trap💀. I have raced the pds & linkage suspended ktms & if the suspension is dialed you wont miss the linkage. I have 120+ hrs on it & have always used Shell Rotella 15/40 engine oil as well with 10hr change intervals....the other ktm recommended oils are overpriced & unnecessary. Ive had factory edition 450s & have a built 2020 450xcf (which I run Rotella in as well) the EXC holds its own against them all. I might even have more fun overall on the perfectly balanced & mod'd 500exc than the newer bikes. Best Dual Sport Bikes has everything i need to make it run like a beast & snap off the bottom (using his billet straight shot fuel rail & adjusted TPS etc) almost like a 450 along with PC ti6 exhaust. The obvious nixing of all the smog crap is a given. Also highly recommend the Bolt chain adjuster blocks everything stays in place👌🏻. Havent done the floating rr axle on it like i run on my 450s. Upgraded front end with newer fender & I use the Sicass license plate stuff & bar switch for lights with the baja designs headlight. Bike definitely needs steering damps & front wheel is noticeably unbalanced for higher speed street activity which i rarely do. The stock wheels & hubs are still going strong....& I have loops with rock gardens👌🏻 Its the bike to have if you can only have 1 bike IMO. If you're worried about weight of bike do your concentrated pushup sets you'll be fine 🙄

Change the oil every 20-30 hours, replace filters, sprockets, brake pads and tires as needed. Never even checked the valves. Enjoyed the video. Would have been nice to hear what this 10-year old bike's stats and maintenance history were... ie how many hours and miles, oil change interval, etc. Many are terrified of this bike due to KTM's service schedule printed in the owner's manual with oil changes, valve checks, top end work, and full rebuilds on a schedule that is simply unheard of for a street legal motorcycle. Specific feedback on real life experience with longevity would be great. The way these things vibrate I am always amazed to hear how many hours some go.

Just look up Aaron Steinmann if you want to see what these can do. Last I looked he had done about 90,000 miles on his traveling around the world.
