Izzy, the 500 EXC is a race bike and is thus not suitable for commuting. I.e you would have to change oil every week or so, as the oil change interval is 10 hours.

I've owned 4 Ktms. Never once had an issue with any of them. Just upgraded to the newer tech and suspension whenever they made big improvements. Loved working for them as well, the shop and customers always had a great relationship.

In my experience, since it's not usuallu under high stress on the road, the motors last a long time. As long as they are free of manufacturing defects like the oil migration issue on the early xc4 engines for example

Just sold my 2008 WR250R of 7 years and bought a '17 350 EXC-F, love it. Used to live in Wylie so I recognize the shot over lake Lavon on Lucas road, used to ride that a lot before moving to Durango, CO.

I've got a dirty old 2000 KTM 520 EXC and it is an absolute wheelstand monster. I'm +1 tooth at the front and i can still pick it up if 6th without touching the clutch.

If the back brake brake too fast without resistance you could try to change the master cylinder to a smaller one to get more feel and power (brakes slower and with more leverage, just like if you where to put a smaller sprocket in the front).

It is the aggressive rake angle not the fender that gives it speed wobble. Get a steering stabilizer. Read about suspension geometry

I have a 500 exc and I think it's too much bike for florida... I bought it thinking I'd take it back with me to cali and ride in the mountains and hills, but here she stays.. it's a hell of a bike but iam thinking of getting rid of her and getting a dr 650 (I know I will kick myself in the ass later) ... it sucks having a badass race bike and all we have is flat fine sand trails and hard dirt County roads in florida :( ... gonna check out crooms and ride around there one day..at least they have some ups and downs " mining pits "lol....and as having a 250 I think it would be a little to less of bike for these highways. motor would be up in high rpms alot.. but the wr 250r would be the best out of all the 250's

completly different bikes, the 500 is a light weight sport enduro and if you wanna convert it to a supermoto it will be pretty expensive cause you need new rims, brake, sprocket, suspension with high maintence, the 701 dont have that much maintence, a bit more powerful but way heavier and is already a supermoto where you probably wont have to change something
