Great video. My 2007 525EXC is my favorite bike of all time!!! This video is part of what pushed me to set the 525 up as an ultra-light adv rig... and I'm loving it!!!

I crossed the USA on the extended TAT 7,350 miles on a KTM690ER in 2015 and on the way I met several Yanks who used their KTM500EXC'S as long range adventure bikes changing the oil every 1200 to 1500 miles or so. All of their bikes had done over12,000 miles on the same piston. As long as the air filter is cleaned daily in bad conditions 1500 mile oil changes should be no issue at all. ARiemann and friend rode two 500 EXC's 5,500 miles with no oil or filter changes from Austria to Egypt (kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5m6g2ign6ytnK8) and when KTM stripped the engines down they barely even needed new rings.

The maintenance issues you mentioned are fantasy. Topping up the oil every 80 miles or so? Only engine is shot or have an oil leak! Valve needing adjusting after a trip? Only if it's a 10,000 km trip!
@colindgrant Жыл бұрын
He said ‘stopping every 80 miles or so for fuel’, not oil. But I agree they do not have to be constantly serviced like so many people think. -530 EXC owner

@@colindgrant “and topping your oil off almost as much” I think he’s referring to if you’re driving it wide open for those while 80 miles, ie driving on the freeway.

Hope you see this. I have, and will keep, a KLR650 and I love it but it's heavy af in Florida sand. I have a chance to buy a street legal 2006 525exc says it has a slight low rpm hesitation so suggesting carb cleaning or kit. For about $2500. Want it for mostly dirt around Florida, which means sand. I'm 6'4" and 250lbs is this a good fit?

Yes I'm 6'1" and it is a big tall bike. Get it.

Al Kydah.. I own a 2005 525exe. It sat for many years and the fuel turned into tarnish. After I finally went though cleaning the carb it now runs perfect. Im 6,1 and love the raw power and size.

I use my 525 XC (where XC means it came directly with a 13liters tank) for quite hard strolls: on average 300 kilometers on tarmac and 400km of real offroad in a single day. Compared to my 950 Lc8 Adv, the 525 lacks horsepower and comfort but it's 100kg lighter😁😂💪👍👍

@GeekMediaLtd3 жыл бұрын
640 is a great bike, our producer Tom did the dawn to dusk on one a few years back, but they are rare and a bit of a classic now, it would be far less painful to damage a 525!

After purchasing your chosen 400/450/525 invest in some front wheel bearings rocky going tends to wear them out Some brake pads front and back are a good investment 525 is a handful in tight going so mind were you ride unless your name is David knight I think the later model 2004 onwards with the single down pipe has a lower sub frame for if like me your to short these steeds improved on the original cylinder head and barrel huqsvarna and husaberg arrangement and have three oil filters but only around a litre engine gearbox oil capacity By the way kTM bought out Husaberg for a replacement of there LC4 engine design Nearly all the these bikes way the same but the difference due to enersure is incredible bigger the capacity the heavier the bike feels hell of a difference The 400/450 were the weapon of choice for many a rider competitor way back when The engines are reliable and strong but there getting a bit now so would needed a rebuild for sure I’ve road the 250 a bit slow The 400 very competent The 450 prob my fav not to over the top The 525 is awesome out in the open trail ridding but steer clear of any tech stuff and don’t go in the woods Mr average well a kTM 250exc T2 is more bike than most people need fast light lugs and doesn’t stall But that 525 makes you feel like a champion till you fall off
