I wish I saw this video when I first got my 2017 690 enduro and replaced them the first week I had the bike. I had sheared many of the upper subframe bolts; and just replaced them each time (often paired with a screw extraction). But then I was 200 miles into a dual sport ride from Barstow to Vegas when the OEM bolts going into the pin for the lower subframe bolt sheared off, and it bent the OEM exhaust with it. I was able to safety wire the muffler and header together; just enough to get to the end finish, but this was now $2,300 repair (oem muffler = $1,400, header = $591) with factory parts or $1,200 repair with aftermarket exhaust parts and the OEM lower subframe pin was also on backorder. Luckily I found the perun moto kit at ktmtwins in escondido CA, and am going to swap that in, just to get the bike rideable again. To other 690 shoppers, I also recommend the inline fuel filter replacement.

It doesn't change the load, it reinforces where the load is, by increasing surface area and significantly increasing the strength of key mounting bolts.

Great job lads! If I ever get a KTM 690, I'll be giving you a call for some bolt kits for sure. I can't believe how the lower tank attachment is made from the factory. Seems like shoddy forethought to me. Good fix on your part though!

just got mine. and the lower kit too. works great.

The original lower tank mount can be hold with an alan key from the inside. So you don't have to mount the bolt again and use the air tool to get the second bolt out.....

Is this bolt - bushing mechanism available on the market? At the KTM OEM parts, this approach is not available. :( Thanks

That is a very cool little allen key tool you are using. Where did you get it? Or who is it made by? I could do with a set of these to use at my work . Thanks .... Buying a KTM 690 SMC R as soon as I can get the cash organised - probably in 2015 now ;o)).

Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV thxs I'd prefer an unbiased opinion, not the opinion of the salesman.

George Washington Actually this is not a real problem on any model if you check the polyurethane bushing and there's no free play in the two mounts. Since MY'13 they changed the poly bushing design. I have over 30K on my '09 R and still on the original bolts. Put it through hell and carried quite a load at times

But wait, KTM is ready to race, is'nt it ?
@mulisha03512 жыл бұрын
yes, it is. this is a modification. i guess you would consider changing the grips to make it also not race ready?

@@mulisha0351 This motorcycle has no protections and it is not designed to be protected. If the buyer has to pay ~ 5000 dollars more, it is not ready to race.

@@fcalin21 i didnt have to spend 5000 more and its fully ready to race. i think your nit picking, or you have no idea how to ride?
@fcalin212 жыл бұрын
@@mulisha0351 See Taco Moto . They spent more then 5000 dollars. If i am a good rider or not it is irrelevant. The fact is that this motorcycle has no protections from the factory, it has a bad seat, a not so good gear box and with all that it cost a lot of money.
