the 790 clutch switch is a simple contact closure system. extreme vibration or grabbing the handlebars to lift a fallen bike can pull on the cables and break the solder joint.

My 890 Duke came with the one wire sticking out of the switch! Looks like I've got a project for tomorrow. Explains why I can't start my bike in gear with the clutch lever in.

Can the two wires just be twisted together to bypass the switch without causing issues with the ECU?

I have the same cuestion. But i think they need a resistance or some thing like that :s The best option is "always in push mode"

It causes issues. Fuel maps, ignition maps, etc., are tied to the clutch safety switch. Some motorcycles take a bypass easily, these aren't one of them unfortunately.

Definitely not. Mine's broken in a different way - the thing that comes in and out just stays in one position. It causes some weird problems with ignition and bike stalling randomly as the ECU thinks the clutch is always pulled.
