Great video vikas .. I am a r3 woner . Yamaha r3 is a fantastic bike fantastic power delivery monster like performance for 320cc bike . my bike 2017 model stock top speed 196kph ..
@SuperImbadude9 жыл бұрын
After market slipons actually reduce the power in the d390 and affects the acceleration in higher speed. Its is due to insufficient back pressure and some resonance effects which only the stock provides. However after market air filters are able to extract 1bhp extra even in stock setup.(dyno proved) The best combination for d390 if you want performance is bmc/k&n airfilter with powertronics ecu. Since you race in the track often might I suggest the following mods: BMC airfilter, powertronics ecu and the throttle from 2015 dukes which has reduced travel and do away with the aftermarket slipons. And see your bike transform. All the racers down here in Chennai and Coimbatore have done the same exact mods for their duke/rc.

Hi Vikas,excellent vid and explanation. From what I ve read, the significance of aerodynamics "kicks in" at speeds above 160 kmph.So basically u re demonstrating extremely well what a good aero dynamic set up on a bike can do. Lot of people have problems in understanding the relationship that aerodynamics has with the way a bike is geared/the kind of power delivery it provides during the rev range of the engine and ergonomics.U managed to address that really well. These are the two bikes I am considering. I know people say the R3 and the RC390 are in the same class but the class of bike I am looking for is low seat height, light weight and upright seating position. Believe it or not, the R3 is a lot more upright than the RC390. I am leaning toward the Duke. Thanks for the video.

Im thinking about picking up a Duke 390 for my little brother as a first bike. We live NYC though, so city riding 90% of the time, but I agree with what you said about aerodynamics and ergonomics. I bought a WR250X as my first bike, and when wind is against me, I can feel the difference in pickup and top speed substantially change. I also really like the sit up position so I dont lean in (also kinda looks doofy on a supermoto tbph). Always give and take with everything. Still tho, naked bikes look so fkn good lol worth the side effects for sure.

Hi Vikas! Great video! In your opinion, if you had to race and zig zag on the highway, including broken roads, which would be your bike of choice? The Duke 390 or the Yamaha R3? Which is easy to maneuver? Also, which handles panic braking better at high speeds?

The faster an object is the more mass it starts to push and the more gravity it experiences... Lol... R3 os no doubt much better in terms of aerodynamics. For people who hate this video (which I know many will), ktm doesn't advertise duke 390 for top speed.. It's all about fun, fun, power, fun, sprints, fun and pocket friendliness.. :p Thr 390 sprints to 150 then suddenly it engages slow-mo.. :p This is a very nice video. Keep up the good work

i think with the duke the only disadvantage is that it does not have a fairing..now to know this for sure that R3 is better than KTM, we need to do a test ride with the RC390 which is similar like R3 with the fairing on. I feel that will make a lot of difference..my personal experience is that when am doing more than 140, the wind blast is too much and that is coz of the design of the KTM..correct me if am wrong..and hey thanks for the vid :)

I'm sorry if I missed hearing it, but did you consider gear ratios? Like many have said, apples and oranges here. R3 built for top end speed, Duke for agile street fighting. BUT, even if the Duke isn't as streamlined as the R3, if it were given the same gear ratios (purely theoretically), the Duke would, in all probability, keep up with or pass the R3. There's no alternative for displacement and bhp :) That being said, they're both beautiful bikes in their own rights.

R3 also have a taller gear ratio allowing it to rev high on top gear while the 390 with a shorter gear ratio hardy reaches 11000 rpm but thats makes duke a better choice while rideing in urban street roads u just need to give some throttle and bang it shoots like a bullet

This is not a four wheeler close the doors and nobody is hanging outside. The combination of motorcycle and rider (rider=human+gears) should be aerodynamic (or streamline). I own a Duke 390, and I can tell that this machine is more comfortable on a twisted mountain road rather than a straight Highway. I have tried this motor on NH7, Kodaikanal, Bodi Mettu area. And also on sand patch (15km) at Dhanuskodi where RE guys hire four-wheel drive leaving their precious bikes. This motor covers all the roads with ease. On Highways, above 120kmph, the fuel economy goes really bad due to the air drag. But, when you touch the mountains, this motor can lean more than what you anticipate.

@bellicromanx9 жыл бұрын
+XypherGhost R3 has better build quality no doubt. But if you're calling KTM an Indian bike, then R3 is not a Japanese bike at all. It is a Thai bike.
@bellicromanx9 жыл бұрын
+UCBANDIT009 If you're giving the highest priority to build quality, consider the Ninja 300. It is considerably better built than R3.
@bellicromanx9 жыл бұрын
+XypherGhost I did read the comment very well, thank you. I don't even understand the point of comparing 'Japanese bike' to 'Indian made bike'. It makes sense to compare bikes based on their engineering/point of building. Not apples to oranges. So, either compare Austrian engineering with Japanese engineering or Indian build with Thai/Indonesian build. R3 is as much a Japanese bike as RC 390 is Austrian. So again, I don't understand the point in stressing the 'Japanese' aspect of R3 when Indian aspect of RC is stressed. Japanese may be way ahead in tech, but how does it matter here? Just because R1/R1M comes with some tech doesn't have any significance wrt R3. Heck R3 doesn't even have delta box frame that the cheaper R15 and R125 get. R125 even gets USD. R3 is a plain, easy to ride budget commuter bike with a sporty engine. Nothing on the R3 says hi-tech or R series except the engine. KTM is very expensive there in SE Asia. So, they don't see enough advantage in it to pay much more. Come to developed world where both the bikes cost similar, KTM gets praise for the best handling in the segment which is one of the most important aspects of a sportbike. Every review mentions KTM as the sportiest of the lot and the most fun with the gruntiest engine. These bikes are beginner or intermediate level bikes there and there are much bigger and better sport bikes available there which the beginners will upgrade to. So, in the overall verdict, KTM may lose out because of aggressive stance and because most beginners don't look for hardcore sporty elements. R3/Ninja are preferred because of lesser cost and ease of riding. So your statement of "The only reason people are praising KTM is because its affordable" doesn't hold beyond India. Even in India, people turn away from KTMs because of Bajaj association and the lesser cost. The self loathing Indians would have drooled over it and praised it to sky if the bike was built exclusively by KTM or one of the Japanese or priced at 4 lakh+. Also, RC 390 is the only hardcore sport bike barring Hyosung GT 650R below the expensive Daytona and liter class. There are many who appreciate pure unadulterated sport bike experience including me and R3 isn't gonna give it to them/me. Heck, one of the test riders from Motorcyclist magazine, (one of the least biased reviewers), who regularly tests litre class sportbikes has bought one for himself and no he didn't buy it because it is cheap (it is more expensive than R3 there) but because of all its positives as a little bike which doesn't dilute its sport bike DNA or milk the badge name of its bigger siblings. Coming back to tech, the RC already has the R3 beat. The 2016 version is going to make it much worse for the R3. So in this case, the Austrians are, without a doubt way ahead. We can only dream that the tech rich Japanese would give tech like electronic throttle in their 4L bikes (let's think about ABS first, BTW), let alone 2.5L bikes. They'd be happy experimenting their tech with sticker jobs. All said, I really like R3 for what it is and it's all roundedness (mainly Yamaha's expected reliability) and that was the exact reason why I didn't go beyond the 'Japanese' aspect in my previous comment, but had to highlight the strengths of RC 390 which we Indians seem to conveniently forget just because of its association with a local brand or its cheaper price tag. I totally agree about Bajaj milking with 200cc bikes, but I won't go into detail there since it is way out of topic.

KTMs focus on outright acceleration which is the result of shorter gear ratio's. Shorter gear ratio's equals higher acceleration and limited top speed. take the KTM on twisties with a good rider complementing the exeptional RACE package it can smoke even 600cc's out there. Talking from experience.

Even RC390 cannot outrun R3/Ninja3 on top speed..0-130kmh yes the KTM will eat those 2,beyond that bye2 single cylinders

Vikas, kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3vVYauEqLJ8r68...this will explain why R3 has a better top speed then KTM 390. I think more than speed a fully faired bike provide more stability at high speeds,yes lesser drag higher the speed. Also R3 is geared tall.

I ball Rc390 u're soo stupidz..he's trying to explain the importance of aerodynamic,if he ride rc 390 instead of duke,how could he explain the aerodynamic huizzz stupid hhoe...yamaha doesnt have 300 cc naked bike in india.....and again rc390 also unable to keep up with r3 becoz -- rc390 top end is 179km/hr,while r3 has over 196km/hr top end....

This video makes it sound like R3 is a faster machine and I am not talking abt the title only. Top speed has very limited relevance specially in India. Realistically most of the time we will be in 90-140km range even on highways and duke is faster there due to more power, way more torque n less weight. Hence, R3 must be great on smoothness or build quality but it's not a faster machine on 99 days out of 100 so I find this video a bit misleading n unrealistic
