Thanks for this video needed to change barrels on panniers ordered new barrels turned up with no instructions followed your vid that was the easy bit getting g old barrels out wad the tricky bit but all sorted your a life saver

How did you get the old barrels out? I have one I need to remove and I’m making the pannier a wreck in the process

I worked it out in the end. You have to undo the bottom 2 screws from inside the pannier on the locking mechanism side and the two KTM head small bolts between the inner box and the outer case. Remove the connecting cable between the 2 sides so it’s easier to manage. Slide out the locking mechanism watching for the 2 levers and springs to pop out - slide slowly you’ll see them. Unscrew the 2 retaining screws that hold the 2 halves of the locking mechanism together and then remove the lever mechanism - it’s best to do all this with the handle up in open position. The lock pin is then exposed on the barrel and you can push it down to slide the barrel out. Reverse process puts it back together - levers and springs are the fiddliest but manageable. I had to do all this because I forgot to put the O ring on when I coded the keys on the right pannier. Lesson in taking your time in the first place….

i always put stickers in the oven on a low heat to warm them up before sticking then on the bike helps then stick mush better

I'm sorry I didn't take it out. It was a major effort to push the barrel in so it will need some force. Sorry I can't help better

From memory it was just brute force. I woukd also use a key inserted and turned slightly to get some traction

I havent removed them no but had a gent say he was doing it and that the barrels did come out but needed a lot of encouraging

You have to have the handles retracted in the closed position to remove the key

I just tried mine, and you can turn the key all the way to open, so the handle pops up, then turn it back to halfway, and the key will come out ...fully unlocked

Yes you definitely can. Just remove the old barrel and follow the instructions on the vid with the new key

Thanks for the video. I simply cannot believe KTM / Austrians would ship a product in this state. Why would they not set up the lock barrels into the luggage at the factory? What kind of clown show is this you need to be a locksmith to install luggage on a motorcycle now days? Got to this part on my 1290 and I'm incredibly pissed off right now. Also JFC man mute the audio when fast forwarding next time.

If you want them to open with the same key that starts the bike, it has to be this way. Most of the time, the bags do not come with the bike. If yours did, then it's your dealer that you should be pissed at, not KTM. The dealer could do this for you.
