KTM Super Duke GT - What with the cold weather in the UK right now I thought I would bring you a taste of summer once more and the final part of the Super Duke GT Tour.
I really enjoyed my time on the Super Duke GT, It's probably the biggest contributing factor to me buying the 1290 R, the memories of this bike on those roads.
So may good point with this bike no idea where to start... I tell you what just watch the video and see for yourself :-)

Great series Lamb Chop. GT, it does the miles and it does the smiles, with a whole ton of charisma. It's gotta be one of the best bikes on the planet!

Excellent 3 part series on the SDGT. Loved the blend of touring and track capability. I decided yesterday that I'm getting a 2017 1290 Super Duke R and for the naked beastly fun as is, then adding panniers, windshield, heated grips, and the ergo seat to make it a bit GT when touring. I laughed (giggled) during your track scenes, watching you do exactly what I would have, pressing the GT bike with touring tires every inch to show up the slick shod racier bikes who's boss. Great adrenaline pumping fun. Yet you had the good sense to call it quits before you and the tires pushed things too far. Hats off! Very entertaining! Here in Canada one of my favourite tours is from Calgary Alberta west to Lake Louise via Hwy 1A for brunch, then to Revelstoke British Columbia for the night. Then early morning set out for an amazing ride south on Hwy 23 to Shelter Bay, catch the Ferry (no fee) across Galena Bay then down to Nakusp, New Denver via Hwy 6 and then to Kaslo via 31A, then via 31 Balfour and 3A to Nelson over another free Ferry, Castlegar via Hwy 6 and 3A. One of the most amazing day trips in the country. In fact I've run into several European sport bikers who had traveled to Canada just to ride this stretch. Then the next day via Hwy 3 we venture to Osoyoos and finishing off at Penticton B.C.. On the way back we take the same route, but work our way through Kootney National Park working our way north back to Hwy 1 and to Banff Alberta and perhaps the Glacial ice fields before back to Calgary. The total distance is about 2,000 km round trip and is a great 6 day trip at a comfortable pace, with all the scenic spots, ferry waits (good time to relax and chat with the friendly locals), and great food/coffee shops. With mountains on one side and lakes and rivers on the other the twisty undulating roads with constantly varying speeds from over 100 kph down to 15 kph (hair pin turns) often with little to no shoulder, are world class fun. I'm giggling again. Thanks for the great vid. Well done and informative.

Lamb Chop, Funny coincidence just occured. I was just watching the Golden Globe awards, and saw Ewen McGregor win a Golden Globe for his work in Fargo, the TV series, where he mentioned he is filming in Calgary (Alberta, Canada). That is funny being that the bike trip explained earlier started in Calgary of all places. Because he lives in London and is one of your countryman (though a Scotsman by birth) and is quite a motorbiking enthusiast, perhaps you could pass the word onto him that inbetween filming, a magnificent biking route is just outside his doorstep? Seriously, though, it was my pleasure to view your vids, and keep up the great work! But if you do know Ewan, make sure to let him know. ;]

I'll second your road review Barry. Snuck into the Ducati Rally with our 1290GT in Nelson last year and rode a lot of those twisties. I still prefer Europe as there is more of a culture that accepts motorcycling in general, but these are some of the best roads in Canada. Enjoyed your videos, Mr. Chop. Especially the track day stuff.

HI Dan, Thanks for your input. Pleased to hear that you have had the pleasure of experiencing those lovely BC interior roads. They are especially enjoyable in June and September, some cooler temps, and less traffic. I am planning to be out there again this summer. My next favourite is south through Washington State, which has some equally amazing roads. Next would be Colorado, through the national forests nestled between the Denver area (Estes Park) and Aspen and Durango. Hope you are enjoying your GT. That's an amazing bike.

Thanks Mike, yeah I found it great, I think being a larger guy the automatic setting of preload really helped as normally bikes are too soft for me. So with this you have the perfect setting for your weight right from the get go.

Great vid, mate! Thanks! Such a beautiful bike, ruined by them big-ass license plates, that you have to tack on, over there in Europe. Ha. No worries, at least you have some beautiful roads. I would love to rent a Duke GT, and do some touring in the old country. If you make it to The States, try to tour Oregon. We have some very amazing shit-the-pants twisty roads here. Just be sure to watch for bear and elk. They can ruin your day, real quick. Cheers, mate. 😀 🤟

Q. How did you Shield the Seat from the Heat of the Engine.? It's a Pain in the Arrs after about an hour. Tried the Aluminum Heat 'Roofing' Insulation but that didn't work. Love the Bike but definitely not the Engine Heating up the Seat... I prefer my Eggs 'Uncooked' and the HEAT from this Engine definitely Boils them after only an hour or less of riding. Definitely need better Insulation. Maybe an Aluminum Heat Shield inside my Pants... KTM 'HELP'...

I do like this bike Chops. One of my mates has one and he loves it. The only thing he's found as we move into winter weather is that the rear hugger is pretty useless. He looked liked he had been ploughing a field when we road to the H cafe. The hugger extender is now on his Christmas list.
