Most people just can’t wait for the R9 (me included) but most people don’t realise that the MT-09 will be the more fun bike to ride & do it for longer periods 😎

I have the Z900RS for general riding but need something more tour oriented for longer stays etc. While looking for something, i took this out as it caught my eye and it was brilliant and. For the money exceptional.. Didn't solve the storage issue though, so took the Tracer 9 GT out afterwards. Tracer 9 it is then, never been so at one with a bike. Sound, comfort, enjoyability..luggage and all the extras as standard with the same CP3 engine.... The RS is brilliant, now I'll have a tourer that is brilliant too, time to treat myself before i get too old..😉.... I can vouch for the MT09 ( 2024). Its superb, but so is the Tracer 9 GT with better touring capabilities..😉👍

Horrible colors, horrible 3rd-4th gen design, BAD stock suspension on multiple generations, shoddy/laughably cheap technical details on the 3rd gen, but superb engine, reliability. That's the MT-09 for you in a nutshell. Yeah, I had one for years.

Having owned one of the previous MT09 models, I can fully concur with your sentiments on this machine Chops 👍. I can see that Yamaha has improved what was previously known as a bonkers bike. Love it, Chops ❤😊

I have a gen 2 09sp. I test rode the outgoing sp today as well as the 24 standard model. I had a blast on both of them. The outgoing model is great, and yamaha is doing some great deals on them right now. But i really want the 24 sp so i put my deposit down for one. Cant wait.

I always found the 07 and 09 were ridden dangerously by young folk.. it's like the modern GSXR.. I just can't get over the looks 🤢. Hopefully, the XSR900 gets a revamp next year.

Interesting. I'm picking mine up today, after six years on two 1290 Super Adv. I just wanted to start over, without the weight and the bulk, even though the (esp latest) SAS are really fine motorbikes. And I was never able to travel as much as I thought I would. I test rode the MT-09 a few weeks ago, and that was it. Funnily, I disagree with all the comments about the SP being worth it, and here is why. First, Yamaha is pushing so hard to make people wanting to buy the SP that there is a catch, of course. They do much more money out of the SP. Now, can you get the same quality out of a regular MT-09 and some aftermarket changes, for less money, without the scale savings? I'm convinced you can... And here is the kicker: I weigh about as much as you do, Chopsy. And the first components to tune, in the suspension department, are the SPRINGS. The SP will have better components, sure, but, as every single Japanese bike, it will be set for a 70 kg rider. Exactly the same as the regular one. So, better damping, yes. Finer control, yes. But way too soft for heavy riders anyway. And, because I know that a lot of people are confused with it, I feel the need to point out that NO, adjusting the preload doesn't change the stiffness of a spring. Those who think otherwise, ask Neevesy. My English is way too bad to do a better job than his, of explaining this. Of course, 'standard' riders will get benefits from the SP. And if they like the colour scheme (I don't), it will be worth the bonus to them. But for a heavy rider? It's a waste of money, because you will always have to respring the thing. Oh, and as for almost everybody here, from what I can read, an R9 might be my end game. Cheers.

As "20 stone fattie" you should really tweak the suspension. I've never ridden a bike that felt right for me on stock settings. I got my 2nd gen MT10 (at a great price) as I thought I'd always be looking at what I didn't have with the MT09 but this one has me reconsidering. So much fun for your money.

I have the 2021 and this is tempting but things like the seat and bars are stuff I like and prefer. Also that with everything they changed, the only parts I’d be able to switch over is the frame sliders and maybe radiator protector. I would probably hold off for the SP for the brakes and suspension. I will say the exhaust is definitely if you’re doing it for the looks. The exhaust gets louder as you break it in. I love the sound and I’m pretty sure if I knew how to mic it up and post a video riding around. Most people would probably think it’s aftermarket
