This was very helpful as most people don't break it down like this. They take brand new machines for one ride and give opinions. Seeing well used machinez and their problems makes me much happier to buy a tpi 250.

"Special starting procedure" might as well has to do with the lithium battery. These don't have full cranking power directly when cold. Best is to push the starting button for few seconds - then just wait, and then push again.
@JayGee69966 жыл бұрын
this procedure primes the fuel system and is the best way to start the bike
@charlesgunzelman33236 жыл бұрын
@@JayGee6996 Also warms up the battery a bit. It's common for people to turn on headlights for a few moments in extreme cold to make the battery work a bit and warm up, then turn off lights and start engine. Warmer battery puts out more cranking amps than ice cold, although this may be different for lithium batteries.

I have the 2019 Husqvarna TE 300i version, 18 hrs/ 400 miles. Have yet to add oil to the premix tank. It will probably go 500 miles. The suspension on the 2019 model is better than my 2017 TE 300. The new bike has stiffer spring rates, different valving, and stays up in the stroke better. Remember Husqvarna suspensions are different than KTM versions. The Husky has the linkage rear. Both brands use the Xplor 48 fork but each brand has their own settings. The TPI 300 starts and runs better than my Mikuni carbed 2017 300. No stalling, loading up, dumping raw fuel, or dying on long downhills. Better fuel economy too. The TPI models will lug down lower because of more accurate fueling. Max power is probably the same, but the TPI bike runs great all day. I often see 30 degree temperature changes in 4 hours riding in the mountains, and 5000’ elevation changes. No carb bike can self adjust during a ride to these changes. Nobody mentions this but all 2019 KTM/ Husqvarna bikes now have the transmissions made by Pankl, a highly respected Formula one transmission supplier. While the transmissions are built to the same spec, I feel that the new bike shifts better and I have bought 4 new Husqvarna’s in the last 4 years. The TPI is heavier though, and you can feel it. If you always run at nearly the same elevation and temperature, then the carb bike is fine and the TPI doesn’ t provide as much benefit. But it is nice not to have to premix, and the added range is probably about 20 miles per tank in easy riding. TPI fuel economy really improves when you go up in elevation. I expect 200 hrs or more on a piston, same as a carb bike. Those who race or abuse their bike will need service sooner.

Thanks for the tip on the fuel filter in the tank. My tpi is at 45 hours and for no reason the engine revs started misbehaving/misfiring in the mid rev range, basically felt like I had to keep shifting to a higher gear to smooth out the engine revs. I suspected it might be fuel filter, TPS sensor or inline coil cap as I was aggressive with the powerwasher after my last ride. But you described my symptoms perfectly.

Excellent review.170 hours on a first piston and oil pump?That's awesome.I have now 110 hours on my 250TPI and I'm getting kinda scared cause the manual states to change the oil pump and piston at 80 hours and there were even some cases when their oil pump failed at 40 or even 20 hours.Till now the bike was running awesome but yesterday started sputtering like it was rich,so maybe I would have to change the fuel pump filter as Adrian did at 50 hours.Apart from that, it's awesome bike.So far I only replaced three times the inline fuel filter,gearbox oil.Grips and some broken levers.Sprockets and brake pads still looks good.Even rear.

My assessment on the 2017 suspension differs dramatically. As far as compliance, control and stability, ktm could not have done a worse job. Despite this, the bike has quick handling and feels more nimble than years past. Carb is pretty brutal as well. If you get past 3rd gear the forks blow through and hydro lock. The shock is too stiff and is severely out of balance with the front.

For sure I don’t care about speed or riding on high rev. But 300 2s sound like a lot of power...I been using the 2017 250 EXC-f for the last year, and I thought to give it a try to the 2S, seems better for thighs slow rocky sections.
@nickwraith3126 жыл бұрын
Martin Abade I recently swapped from exc250f to exc250tpi.i also tried a 300 tpi. The 300 is a lot torquier than the 250 and not hard to ride but you’ll need to be more delicate with the throttle. If you buy a six days, it come with a handlebar mounted switch power mode selector. Also, choose the 300 if you’re going to do lots of roadwork too.
@thomaswebby24315 жыл бұрын
What did you end up buying
@martinabade5 жыл бұрын
Thomas Webby i end up buying a 300 tpi six days, just because I got the same price as a 250 tpi std. I think is exactly what nick described on the comment above. Although I will add that the power on the 300 is manageable just be more delicate with the wrist. And on the cons side I’ll say the gear box ratio is very different, the 300 has a very short 1-2-3 and then it gets longer, but the 250 has the same ratio all across the gear box.

My guess is $1500-2000 dollars because as soon as you drive it off the lot the bike depreciate like 5,000. @@EnduroWithAlex I checked the manual for the TPI bikes and it said 40 hours. Even that blew me away as it was always 20 hours or after a race. Not sure why or when ktm changed it. @EnduroWithAlex5 жыл бұрын
Well the 8 bikes are ridden every day, not so hard but they are in rental use so they occasionally go through pretty hard times. And all of them are working still perfectly. Running a quality oil is the most important thing you can do to a two stroke bike. Because the transmission is almost 100% "closed" from the outside world. If the clutch starts to wear out to the oil or something you will certainly notice that from the gear changes. To be honest I trust more the user experiences than the manufacturer who has a deal with the oil company they are recommending in the manual. But of course everyone does however they like and feel what's the best thing to do.
