I had tried everything and then watched your video. The side sink was draining perfectly, as well as the garbage disposal but it kept backing up. What I didn't realize is that the pipe that joins the two basins, before they let the water drain out, is a single pipe on the exterior but is divided in the interior. I was able to remove the screws as you recommended and clear the clog. While I had the pipes off I power washed them with a jet spray on the hose and liquid detergent in the sink to clear the interior walls of the pipe. The drainage on my sink is now working like brand new. Thank you so much for posting this video. I really appreciate people like you who take the time to make a thorough video!

My wife has Bunko tomorrow night. At 9:00 tonight she sent a bunch of celery down the disposal. You can add celery to the list of pasta, egg shells, and banana peels to the list of things not to put down the disposal. After trying the plunger, searching KZbin and finding your video - a little over an hour and it was done. The best advice was to let it drain slowly. It took almost 30 minutes just to drain the water but I had almost no mess afterwards. This video is in the top ten self-help videos that I have watched on KZbin🎯🎯🎯😀😀😀 Thank you so much for taking the time to make it and post it. You probably saved me $150 - $200, and made me a hero in my wife’s eyes for the night.

Extremely helpful! My experience was exactly as shown in the video ending with a successfully removed clog (only potato skins instead of spaghetti). One other minor difference was that my mom's garbage disposal was not plugged into an outlet, so I had to turn off the disposal at the circuit breaker. The plunger trick was great, and I can add a small improvement: I used a rectangular plastic basin (normally used to store cleaning products beneath the sink) that fit under the PVC pipes, so draining the sink was faster and less messy than with a bucket. Many thanks for this public service!

Thank you for making this video and taking us step-by-step through the process. My drain instantly clogged when an open bag of loose leaf tea fell into the sink and I thought it could easily be flushed down the disposal. The hex key method and plunger method didn’t unclog my drain, so I was thinking that I was going to have to call a plumber. But then I came across your video! After following your steps, I had my drain unclogged in less than a half hour, start to finish. All the credit goes to you!! I can’t imagine how much money I saved from calling a plumber when this was such a simple process. Thank you again, and keep up the great work!

Clog was in one of the pipes after the disposal itself, so I just had to pop that off and clear out the clump of cilantro someone thought would be a good idea to put down there, and fixed. Protip to the clueless: if there is a lot of water in the sink above, scoop it out first before removing any of the pipes below.

@@theXchange Thanks Kris! I removed the dirty black water of the clogged sink as best as possible so that as minimal as possible will leak out underneath when I do the job. Also not sure why the old garbage disposal just makes a humming noise when I turn it on. I never use it and I inherited it when I bought this house. I will have to troubleshoot that AFTER I unplug it when I do this job like you said to do for safety.
@DougCeleste4 жыл бұрын
@@theXchange Got the project done with your help and the help of others who have also commented but their comments are not showing with your comments for some reason. Anyhow, I had success after I had to take apart the garbage disposal. No wonder it did not work or the drum would not turn by using the allen wrench and trying to turn it from the bottom of the disposal. There was so much sludge inside that jammed the motor. After a thorough cleaning of the inside, I re-assembled the disposal and the pipes and everything worked fine. The HARDEST part was getting the disposal off to work on it and then lifting it up to re-attach it since it was so heavy. Tough to do with just one person if you are not a plumber but I did it. This is just a temporary fix, though, since I will be getting a new sink and accessories and have NO intention of getting a new disposal since I HATE the things and never use them. Thanks again for your help and giving me the confidence to do this job. Much appreciated! Cheers to you from New Mexico!

check to see if there’s a slow leak/drip from the pipe leading into the disposer. I wonder if there could be a slow leeching of water than is running down the side of the disposer, but appearing to come from the reset button.
@Corney2792 жыл бұрын
If you have a double sink before you take everything apart, fill the other side with hot water(it probably won't fill but, keep the hot water going) and pump away with a plunger, it pressurizes the clog from the back side and sometimes works. It has worked for me a few times.

Antiques Restoration use plenty of hot water when you use disposer to flush it all they. Every couple of months fill up both sides with hot water and drain them both you can even turn on disposer to give it a little extra pressure that will flush out your 2@ line till it hits 3”” and yes I would have charged 100. Unless it was on the side Do you sell antiques I do have some I am interested in selling I have a variety of things and I guess it would depend on your location.

Muchas gracias, Kris. I stupidly force fed too much old kale into the disposal and then saw water just shooting all around inside the disposal and coming back up. This would've been a disaster with Thanksgiving preparations beginning tomorrow. Nothing was jammed and the disposal was doing what it's supposed to do but could not push the water out Who'd a thunk a bag of chopped kale could bring it to its knees. I looked at this after removing the P trap and found nothing clogged. Watched the video and disconnect the black disposal drain but did not find anything clogging it so I figured the clog must be in the disposal body. I then disconnected the DW outlet hose at the inlet to the disposal and cut a piece off a latex glove to seal the inlet and reattached the DW hose over it so as to prevent the force of the plunger in my next step to be dissipated out through the DW hose. I only needed three or four strokes with the plunger at the sink drain to unclog the disposal. Then removed the latex (disaster had I forgotten to do this)a nd reattached all fittings. Incidentally, I changed out this disposal two years ago after watching a video on it. It's a very simple job if you replace with the same basic disposal so that all fittings can be reused. Don't be daunted if the need arises.

Just unclogged my garbage disposal full of pasta (like you) and wanted to say thanks for posting this! I loved all the step-by-step instructions. I used a large bowl under the disposal and emptied that into a bucket.

This was really helpful. I managed to free the clog, following every step of your instructions. The plunger trick was stellar!! Thank you for that. However, now when I plug in the disposal unit, it turns on automatically, whether the switch on the backsplash is flipped on, or not. So, I cannot plug it in. I fear that the unit itself my be FUBAR, and that is beyond my capability to repair, or even evaluate. However, I can now run my diswasher, at least, because the drains (it's a double sink) both flow freely. So, thank you for taking the time to make this video.

Awesome! I’m glad it helped! I hope you’re able to figure out why it stays on while plugged in.

You have a switched outlet (garbage disposal) and non-switched (dishwasher) in the same receptacle. My guess is you reversed the plug for the dishwasher with that of the garbage disposal. Flip them around.

This is the first time for me I'm glad to have seen your video. I haven't attempted yet, but I will use use the Shop-Vac to suck the water out. If I take one of the couplings loose from underneath, what would happen if I ran a small snake into the line? I'm trying to avoid taking all the pieces apart. I suppose I should have been blasting it clean with my dishwasher, but it's nice to know those pipes can be twisted off. Mine are a little old so they're probably solidly connected. Any recommendations on how to loosen them? Nice clear video

@@theXchange thank you for replying. I had to go out of town and I still haven't unclog the pipes. The KitchenAid underneath is clean and Clear, but the flanges are so glued on like plumber's goop is holding them tightly is there a way loosen that to avoid calling the plumber? Thank you for such a clear video. I'm a die-hard DYI lady
