Hi BC , that journey seemed to go reasonably smoothly .The booking and ticketing process looked easy and cheap enough with some convenient travel times to take in the scenery. You nailed your travel again mate 👍🏼🍻🇦🇺

Hi SG. Yes, booking online with the app makes it really straightforward. It's the best way to source tickets, I think. Everything was smooth until the final 5 minute train journey! That's when the automatic gates at immigration decided my passport couldn't be verified. How I caught that last train, I'll never know! And if you'd heard my language running for that train, you might not think I'd nailed it! In fact the language was probably similar to hammering a nail and missing by hitting your own hand! 😀

Very interesting journey BC. Quite straightforward even with all those train changes. Maybe a little long from Bangkok... but what an adventure! Next time you can stop at Penang, it's a beautiful city!
@balloonchaser4 ай бұрын
Thanks, Alain. I'm a big fan of Penang as I went there on several visa runs years ago. I'd love to go back there, and shortly, they are going to reinstate the Bangkok to Butterworth direct train, so I might take that! Cheers for the comment!

There is bus service from Singapore direct to hadyai in Thailand.
@balloonchaser4 ай бұрын
Many thanks for mentioning that. The bus is another interesting option, although I believe it takes around 13 hours? 900km is a long way for me to do on a bus without a proper break. My bad back won't allow it! 😃 But it's definitely a useful alternative. Thanks.

hey just wondering how early before departure did you have to be at the station by!
@balloonchaser18 күн бұрын
Assuming you've already got your tickets, I'd say 30 minutes should be enough. The last leg to singapore you need to add the time to go through immigration. That could be at least another 30 minutes up to an hour, depending on how busy it is. These are just my estimates. Please don't miss the train!

That looked like an enjoyable journey, A touch of good luck, and a bit of bad as well. I hope your passport hasn't lost its ability to scan permanently. Was it a flight back to Bangkok?
@balloonchaser4 ай бұрын
Thanks, Mark. I have no idea what the passport issue was. Something didn't match on their system, and they weren't happy about it. I was just worried I was going to miss my connection because of it. I left Singapore by air. Everything automated and no problems at all. So, hopefully, just a one-off! I'll find out for sure on the next trip! All part of the fun of travelling!

Pls revisit the trip once the project is completed including RTS and feel the difference, im curious. Heard that the singaporean side is connected to their mrt similiar to kl which make a well connected public transport in both country😅
@balloonchaser4 ай бұрын
Yes, would love to do this trip again in the future. I used the mrt in singapore and I've got a short video about the benefits of that coming out shortly. You'd need to get a short bus ride from Woodlands CIQ to Woodlands MRT, but after that, you'd be all set to go anywhere in singapore city!

What a great train 🚆 journey from Thailand 🇹🇭 to Singapore 🇸🇬 via Malaysia 🇲🇾 . The cost is mind blowing BC £10 from Malaysia to Singapore. Did you catch any of the Grand Prix ? Looks amazing and the journey was smooth . Pass port scans 🤯🤯. From a raining 🌧️ wet Warwickshire enjoy yourself in the sun my Mann . Excellent trip BC

Many thanks, Jimmy. I'm going to put together the 3 videos to show the whole journey from Bangkok because you're right, it was epic! Cost was cheap until I actually arrived in Singapore! And Formula 1 weekend made it even more expensive, especially for hotels. Would have loved to have seen it live (I've seen a few over the years), but sadly had to settle for watching on tv 😞! Never mind. Sounds like you've been having some of the weather SE Asia has been having. Been some big floods in these parts, so I was really lucky to stay dry on this trip!

Do you suggest a wheelchair passenger to go by this route ?
@balloonchaserАй бұрын
I'm not a wheelchair user so it's quite difficult for me to recommend. I booked my tickets using the KTMB mobile app and I did see that their trains have reservable wheelchair spaces on each service. The fast train for the first part of the journey is very modern and I believe is accessibility friendly. The second train is older and is likely to be less suitable, although again I believe there are wheelchair spaces on this service. For the final part of the journey into singapore itself I don't think I'd recommend the train to woodlands cic. It was crowded and hectic when I went, and it's a short journey that might be better taken by taxi or bus for a wheelchair dependent traveller. I stress I'm not an expert in this area, but these are my thoughts based on my journey. Obviously contacting the rail company in advance would be advisable as they may have other service options that I didn't see. I wish you all the best.

Odd that there is no direct train between KL and Singapore. The stations look modern and the trains are a bit better than the "3rd class fan" ones. I am currently looking at Malaysia and MM2H as an alternative to returning to Thailand. Thailand seems to be heading in the wrong direction right now in terms of the attitude to foreigners. I even saw a proposal today to tax foreigners more on condo sales than Thais.
@balloonchaser4 ай бұрын
Thanks, David. There will be a direct train soon, I believe. Possibly as soon as next year. That will make a big difference. The modern 140km/h trains in Malaysia are great. Obviously the second one , less so! Malaysia might be a good option. There's a few people looking at different options these days. I enjoy going to neighbouring countries, but it's still nice to get back to Thailand!

True, but using grab for taxis was convenient. The money came from my Thai bank. Also Singapore, in particular, was well advanced for contactless payments. My morning coffee shop didn't accept cash. Same for single journeys on the MRT. So I didn't really need to exchange any cash into SGD. 👍
