@chabico75 Жыл бұрын

The scenery was very beautiful, including all the happy scenes at the fair, but I really didn't like the toxic relationship between the two leads. She embarrasses and humiliates him but because she tells others she loves him that's okay? I know Russian women are tougher than men in the west, but are Russian men eunuchs?

They are both psychologically damaged. Galina is a widow and may be afraid to let another man approach her, but she still loves him.
@ekaterinazelenova50153 ай бұрын
It's not like thst. You should know the movie better. They are both not young, both lost their family members in Second World War: she is the widow, he lost his family members, too. He secretly loved her all his life, and never been married. But Galina never hurt him nor in her actions, nor with her words. They both think that since they're not in their youth, how is it possible to show the affection towards each other? Remember, it's the village, where traditions are still alive; according to these traditions, fawning and courting are for the young boys and girls; the ones who are more than 23-24 years of age should be serene, calm and strict.

Idk what other capitalist country could survive after a devastating war that destroyed almost the entire economy, received a giant demographic crisis, surrounded by enemies and isolated from the world. Imagine that the USA is isolated from the whole world, when the main article of their export is cut green paper. The US would simply cease to exist.

if we take the percentage of people (of the total number of people in the country) who were in the GULAG, then there are fewer of them than there are now in US prisons. You probably know about the Gulag from Solzhenitsyn? He was just absorbing the legends of the prison, and as usual they are extremely exaggerated.
@vorynrosethorn9033 ай бұрын
The gulag was used to kill millions of people for political views, the criminals got less harsh treatment. Also the Soviet archives have been open since the nineties, all the claims from American intellectuals about how misunderstood communist Russia were is a bit of a joke when you can pull up paperwork on the things that happened. Considering the damage communist rule did, both in human terms and to Russia, the Cossacks who stood by the Tsar were completely justified. Communists go on about the people but the fact is that revolutions are the product of small organised groups, the majority of society will always choose being supporting what they know and fence sitting as they don't care to get involved. The opposing political force only gains popular support once it seems like the winning horse. Despite all the talk of people, the Soviets favoured a small elite class and did so at a far greater cost to the rest of the population than the Tsarist regime even had the capability for.
