Aw man... hearing that kind of news bums me out all the time. Laika are excellent, and Kubo is AMAZING. Do you know where one could get info on how much Kubo has to make in order to be called a box office 'success'? Is there a break-even requirement? I hope this doesn't stop Laika and movie makers alike to stop making stop motion films. They're excellent, unique and very nostalgic.
@fabriziolorenzo2392
@fabriziolorenzo2392 8 жыл бұрын
aimannorzahariwod It really bums me out, too. Kubo is absolutely incredible, and it should get the same media blitz that films like Frozen and Zootopia get. Unfortunately, that isn't the case, but hopefully it will be, and people will see that this film is a must see. This film is superior to many, and I mean MANY 2016 summer films. I would argue that it is the best in fact. That really depends on a lot of things. Kubo had a budget of roughly $60 million dollars, pretty good for stop-motion animatiom, but much more is needed to promote it (which is why I believe the film isn't doing well commercially. Hopefully the reviews fix that.). I believe since Kubo probably cost between $60 million to a potential $70 million, it would probably take Kubo earning $70 million to $80 million. I'm not sure about that, though. I'm not all that familiar with how all that works. What I do know is that Kubo should be thriving for how incredible it is. This is, in my opinion, vastly superior to Suicide Squad, Ben-Hur, even Star Trek Beyond, which I though was really good. I hope that this doesn't stop them either. They're too good to be ignored.

+Triston Hamilton it was subpar and Kubo was WAY better. It's just sad that these big name movies can be barely enjoyable and make hundreds of millions more than really great movies like this. It was better than BvS but, it's trash compared to this. Quite like many other CBMs.

The level of care and detail put into the stop-motion is incredible. Watch the clip where they're in the snowstorm- every single piece of Monkey's fur is blowing around in the wind. They had to move all of those individually for every single frame. I can't even imagine how the tiny stop-motion snowflakes are accomplished. The whole time I kept thinking "wow animators, you didn't NEED to add all those nuanced movements, most people wouldn't care if you didn't. But you did."

I know it's a little out there, but I got a theory that stuck with me the whole movie. I think the movie is an analogy for the story of a boy, who lost the parents very young. So he doesn't remember a lot of them. He's sent to live with his grandpa. His aunts are always talking shit about his parents, and he doesn't want to believe them, but he can't remember that much of them either. So the only reliable source he has is his grandpa. The problem is: His grandfather has Alzheimer. He remember some stuff, but not all of it. That's why the stories are never complete. The eye his grandpa stole, would simbolize that he (grandpa) actually saw the parents and how they were, but he can't give that information to Kubo, cause he doesn't remember. He "stole" that vision of him. If you pay attention, a lot of locations they go through are the exact same danger they are about to encounter. That's because Kubo heard the stories a thousand times, but they never have an ending. I know it's a little crazy, but it got me thinking. Anyway, awesome video as always. Joe

Kubo is one of my favorite movies of this year, and maybe one of my all time favorites. As someone who has respect for animation, seeing Laika studios put out this movie that has a deep story, morals, and characters makes me so happy. In a time where it seems as though animated movies are either made to sell to kids or are just dismissed as goofy cartoons, Kubo and the Two Strings is a breath of fresh air.

You know what I like in this movie (apart from all the points mentioned)? The fact that Kubo's mother didn't lied to him about his origins or his powers. Too often, the main character is completely lost about what is going on, what to do or how to do it, you have a training sequence, etc. Not here. Here, you have a character who knows what's going on. He doesn't always understand the motivations of others or what to do next, but it's more due to his age more than the lack of information. Another good point is that adults behave actually like adults and the child is actually behaving like a child. A child that was forced to grow up too quickly, but he knows how to have fun and act his age when he can. And the adults are not incompetent, they want to protect Kubo and, all in all, succeeded even with a few mishaps. Too often the adults are depicted as unreliable, dumb or mean just for the sake of make the kid look cool. Here, they demonstrated that is was not necessary, you can have a main character and supporting characters that are competent at the same time.

So many people have told me that Coraline scares the shit out of them, a friend told me her son found Paranorman too scary even though he loves The Walking Dead, and Jeremy says kids cried at this movie, so I guess the true masters of horror currently are the makers at Laika. LOL I'm excited to go see this!

People say this is an adventure movie but to me it was mostly a great character story about family that happened to have taken place during a grand adventure. It was 55% emotion 40% questing and 5% world building. Would love to read more backstory about the mythology since they gave you bare minimum and left the mind to fill in the gaps which is great but love to learn more.

Some youtuber game reviewer made a video saying he believes (for several reasons, which are, surprisingly convincing), that Kubo is a sort of hommage sequel to Miyazaki's movie "Princess Kaguya", or at least the famous japanese myth it was inspired from. Type "kubo sequel", you'll see, it's good reasoning, and it'll let you dive into more culture and background.

I doubt it this day and age the majority of people would rather see crap action movies and rehashed comedies rather than seeing a one of a kind movie like Kubo so odds are that Coraline would of had the same fate and its really sad studio ghibli did masterful movies and deserved every cent like Laika but i feel until people grow a brain great studios like these wont last long.
