I think the old Ford tractor clutch/PTO was like this, when you stopped the PTO stopped, but something like a rotary cutter back then would continue to push the tractor forward even with the clutch disengaged....with the B-Series setup like you have, the over-running clutch in the PTO allows the PTO implement to slowly spin to a stop when the clutch is disengaged separating the PTO from the transmission keeping you from plowing through your fences as some people with the old Ford tractors quickly realized LOL. Its not a bad setup once you understand how it works, and for mowing and stuff like that where you pick a gear and pretty much just steer, its a decent system.

Good video! It's nice to see more B2401 specific content. You were saying M-3 gear was too fast. Try H-1. I find it is a bit slower than M-3 and I use it often for mowing.

You are correct, H1 is 7 km/h while M3 is 8 km/h. There is a bit of overlap between M and H that I had not noticed when first reading the manual.

Do you know how you would use a wood chipper with the 2401? Doesn’t the engine shut off if you get off the seat?

You just flip the seat up to shop the engine shutting off. You have to be quick :D

I had no idea the blades change direction in reverse.

They don't. PTO always turns in the same direction and speed regardless of the gear.

I love manual my car is a manual and my truck is also a manual, however, It’s better to use a hydrostatic due to the stupid pto issue

Howmany hp is it? And how is it on tall fields?

Manual says 19.2HP at the PTO. Works fine on tall grass. I have a POV "short" of it mowing an old hay field.

@@neoblackwolf69 works well so long as the cutter is setup right - rear jacked up almost all the way so the grass gets thrown out the back. Adjust the cut by moving the front of the cutter up and down with the 3pt

This works the clutch too hard hydrostatic is better. Clutch won’t last long with this much momentum

Amazing how all tractors used to all be manual gear shift and somehow have thousands of hours on them without issue or a clutch replacement.

This model Kubota and the standard L 2501 manual are budget tractors and lack a dual stage clutch. The grand L with the manual glide shaft sync shuttle is a sweet transmission and has dual stage . IMO if you are primarily mowing don’t buy a single stage. I have the 2501 manual but mainly do dirt work and I prefer the manual over the hydro because I don’t like hydro wine and the lack of low end grunt found in a lot of hydros plus you don’t have to rev the engine to make the hydro pumps happy.

It's a trade-off; you have to do a little more work in exchange for 20% lower price. It really does become automatic after a short while. Plus I'm usually just driving big ovals for hours when I'm using the brush hog; don't have to do anything but steer.
