Kubota BX VS Toro Zero Turn Mower

Sam I gotta say that was a fun and very informative video. I really enjoyed it. Both machines are awesome. I agree that for your property the 2 machines make a lot of sense. In the long haul the hours saved on your BX by cuttting with the zero turn will maintain the BX's dollar value at a higher rate while the zero turn depreciates slowly.

Thank you very much for the comments! Funny, I didn't really think about the obvious "savings" of hours on the BX. That's a huge point. Each machine really does a lot for the other 😁👍

Guess I’m not fortunate enough to be able to have $21000 invested in lawnmowers. I had buyers remorse when paying $16k for BX. After realizing it is a workhorse that does everything I’m a happy camper. I agree the ZT, a dedicated mower is the best tool. My BX is great for me, mows great, great turn radius, moves dirt, lifts pallets and logs. The suspension seat would be very welcomed. Good explanation on the pros/cons. Would a rear frail or finish mower on the BX reduce time?

I had to wait till I paid my BX off to afford another machine. It was really the best choice for me. Goodness, there's a great deal of people who aren't fortunate enough to be able to invest $16k for a BX. It was a wise investment for me because of the time it will save me and that is one thing we can't get back. Love my BX too! I think a rear mounted mower would help with taking it on or off, but the speed and 72" cut of the ZTR can't be beat 😁👍

@@samsdoinstuffyes, time, the most important and limited resource we have. I see where you might have children so I’d rather spend time with family then have money in the bank. Thankfully for me, my mom gave me a small investment and taught me the value of wise spending. Holding on to that investment paid for my BX. Thank you mom 👼🙏🏻

Well, we're all different! We like different things, life would be boring if we all liked the same things! I have an RK 24 (3+ years now're now). They're not available in all 50 states. I have the 60" belly mower plus last year I purchased a rear mower (not a finish mower, more of a bush hog) to mow CRP acreage, once a year. Yep, I've used the TRACTOR mow, prep the site for a building, repaired a driveway, used the loader in cutting wood ( lifted logs off the ground for cutting, and lifting wood to to splitter, and dumping into a truck), I pulled trees out of the ground, etc. I have a rear mount tiller. Ya can't do much but mow with the ZTR. LOVE my tractor! The guy at work uses a ZTR John Deere, and flies. Yep he gets done in less time, but when he gets done, it looks like it still needs to be mowed. I think he mows almost every other day. MY thoughts are if he slowed down and did a better job, he wouldn't have to mow as often, maybe he's NOT saving any time if he has to mow it twice! ( maybe not true for you, though!) Anyway, love my little multipurpose tractor! The best choice for ME! 😊

Hey Sam I have a Cub Cadet RZTS 50 and I love it so much better than my BX, but everything has it's use. Love the video as always.

You can't expect the tractor to cut as good as the ZTR. The tractor does many tasks as well as expected and the ZTR only cuts grass, but very well. You forgot the mention one use for the tractor. It pulls the ZTR out of the ditch! lol The other thing you touched on that is important. My neighbor just bought a 60" Bad Boy with a Kawasaki air cooled engine and dual drive motors for $4k. The barns are looking great and you have a lot of storage now.

Thank you! Yes, a ZTR only does one thing but it does it very well. And now mowing will never enter the equation if I want to upgrade my tractor someday 😁👍 I'm really pleased with my barns!

Nice comparison Sam and the money saved not buying the Kubota deck would go quite a ways toward a less austentatous ZT mower.

Thanks! Great description... "ostentatious" it is, lol. I was actually debating a bigger tractor but I would have had to go up to an LX model in order to get a 72" deck and I would still have to wrestle with taking the deck off. This way, if I decide to get a bigger machine some day, I don't even have to think about mowing capabilities 😁👍

I used a full tank of fuel mowing with my bx this week, it only took me 4 days, I was so far behind on my chores it got out of hand quick!!! Lol!

When I got the mower deck for my BX2680 last year it was $2500 +$150 in sales tax. Not cheap, could have bought an entry level zero turn...but I have a lawn tractor already that I mow with 99% of the time. I've never tried that trick before raising up the front of the tractor and rolling the deck under it....I've always just rolled it in from the side, but I guess that's because I take the loader off and rear implement off before I do the deck install LOL. May have to try that next time. Not sure why people do these types of tests, we all know a ZTR is going to be a lot faster than a tractor, even a lawn tractor is slower. Not to mention trying to go that fast while mowing is not going to leave a very good looking lawn LOL. Sure a ZTR goes fast, but the lawns I've mowed are never nice and smooth LOL. If all I wanted to do was mow a nice flat perfect lawn a ZTR is fine...but I prefer the lawn tractor for the few attachment options that you can't put on a typical ZTR. I have a snow blower for my lawn tractor, and I don't use it very often, so honestly I've thought about getting rid of it, but I'm still left with a lawn tractor that works great. Mowing with my BX, yeah I can, not I don't do it often because of the time it takes to put the deck on and all that...don't take too long, but when I want to mow the lawn, I want to mow the lawn, not fiddle around with swapping attachments, taking off a loader, etc. My lawn tractor is a Cub Cadet XT1 42" 18HP model...it does a great job, except it don't windrow worth a damn....yep sometimes windrowing is a good thing, makes picking up grass/leaves much easier if you can windrow it all and rake it up that way VS having to rake the whole yard. The BX does a much better job at windrowing, and I think its because the discharge chute is so much larger it kind of keeps the clippings closer to the mower. So come leaf season I run the BX more because I can windrow the leaves into a nice long row, and go through with the rake, and make piles to easily pickup. I don't have a lawn sweeper, I had one and the material fell apart/rotted in the sun, so a huge waste of money for me. I always say I wish I had a little mini baler, I could windrow and then bale the grass LOL. Did you see Neil Messick's attempt at a more comfortable seat on a BX earlier this week, or maybe it was last week? He tried to mount a air ride tractor seat on a BX...it sat way too high to be useful HAHA!!! I wonder how much closer of a fit that Toro seat would be to fit on a BX...looks wider though...someone could probably fabricate a mount though. That's definitely one negative about the BX...heck any lawn tractor to be honest has terrible seats....there isn't any sort of suspension on the machine, the seat don't have much either. When you got the zero turn stuck in the ditch I was thinking, yep that's the most common problem people have in my area with zero turn mowers, they don't handle ditches well, and they don't sidehill either for the most part, if they lose traction hang on you are going for a ride. Nice thing with the BX, its there to pull the zero turn out LOL.

There is a suspension seat on Amazon but I don't know if it would fit the BX. Kubota makes an awesome seat for their zero turn... wish they would for the BX. @@samsdoinstuff My 1 acre property is pretty flat but its also kind of rough...a suspension seat would be awesome....definitely something a lot of us would pay extra for, or even buy after the fact....the factory seat on my BX would be great on my lawn tractor LOL. I find when I'm doing tractor work, I have a lot more seat time on the BX, than I ever do with my lawn tractor....I mow the lawn which if I have to mow the whole acre takes maybe an hour at the most, but most of the year I'm only mowing around the house which takes about a half hour....when I'm doing work with the BX I'm usually in the seat for more than an hour, after bouncing around on that tractor for a few hours its hard on the body, having a seat that takes some of those shock loads off your body would be excellent. I mean the seat on it now is a good step up from my lawn tractor, but given the price point of the BX, the OEM seat on it could be a heck of a lot better.

You can't run a zero turn with a drink in one hand. Tractor wins 😅😅 My JD is too slow. It has to be in low range or the engine struggles too much. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Haha! I just saw Brock from Rockhill Farms review a Cub Cadet ZTR with a steering wheel and he said the same thing! I do dream of a tractor with an air conditioned cab pulling an 80" finish mower on the 3PH. Wouldn't even care how long it took 🤠👍
