Nice explanation of operation Mike. I bought 2 kubota shut off solenoids 10 years ago for my z482 engines - $200 each .

Thanks Steve! Yeah this was actually $160 USD but worth it because it works!

Your right, all said & done, OEM almost _always_ ends up being cheaper and far less infuriating/time consuming.

I just replaced mine with an Amazon junk fuel shutoff solenoid, because it came right away and I can still return it. My bx24 starts right away and the motor hums until I accelerate to forward or reverse. Then it sputters and will die unless I immediately take my foot off the pedal. Do you think that’s caused by the cheap solenoid? Or something else?

Very hard to tell without actually being able to see it myself but I can tell you I am glad I bought an OEM Kubota shut off because it solved my problem with my tractor when the junk amazon 1 did not.

@@TheDisgruntledMechanic have you checked into buying one from DB electrical? They claim to work with manufacturers to make OEM products. Give a one year warranty on everything they sell…

Nope tired of dealing with non OEM.too much problem and lost time

Easy fix if………the shut off solenoid is the only issue. I just repaired one that had multiple problems. My fuel shut off solenoid was bad and power circuit feeding the timer/shut off relay on my was dead (yellow wire at the shut off relay). The fuse feeding that circuit was blown. Easy fix but it pays to understand what controls the shut off solenoid. If you have power at the fuse block but no power to the yellow wire at the fuel shut off relay, it may be a faulty seat interlock switch, wire or connection.

then you have to do more testing with the test light which if I would have had to do I would have shown it.

@@TheDisgruntledMechanic my comment is meant for those who have issues beyond a faulty shut off solenoid. It may help them with their diagnosis

understood. just commenting on what I would have done if that had happened.

TWO things, and more: 1) you can lose skin if you contact the fan while manually shutting off the fuel. (ask me how I know.. lol ) 2) The old Solenoid was working, and as DM said, good grounding, 3) but if you want to save $120, my video isn't all the great, as I am learning, but as of yesterday, I have TWICE cleaned the dust out of the solenoid, and 'dry lubricated' the plunger. The rubber boots rots and allows dust to penetrate. My BX 25 now has 3,009 hours on it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4bXe2ecrJtlmJo
