Snow Storm Izzy comes to Northeast Ohio and that means it's time to install the plow on my Kubota BX2380. This video shows how it hooks to the tractor and how it performs in 15 inches of heavy snow. Bonus: Using the Bxpanded Front End Loader Dolly.

Nice job, just an fyi of what I do, when I get into the 12"+ range I plow my outside passes first, this allows and easier time working the centers to the side without it narrowing to much by a larger windrow.

I have a BX2680 with a loader and a 50 inch front mount blower and a rear mounted blade. My last tractor was a BX2200 with the same set up. I also had a front blade for the BX2200 and it pushed more snow than I thought it ever could, turf tires chains and 100 pounds of weight on the rear blade. I am considering a front blade that uses the same mount as my blower because it is easy to swap them back and forth. If I break my blower I can slide the blade onto the same mount in minutes. That happened with my last tractor after catching a piece of ice in the snow and breaking the chain. I have a long driveway that is hardpack, not paved, so I like the option in case I break a blower chain, etc. The advantage of a hitch mount blade vs a loader mount: shorter overall tractor length (if that matters to you) and to easily switch between blower and blade without going through the work of dropping the hitch and attaching the loader, if you also have a blower. I also have loaded rear tires and chains on R4 bar tires and the rear scraper blade hanging off the back for extra weight and for snow, slush, ice that is not easily handled with my blower. I don't get stuck or have an issue with traction (within reasonable limits) If I did not have a front blower and rear blade, I would opt for the quick-attach blade to the loader. As noted, you can push banks to a higher stack level with the loader mounted blade. I wouldn't run it without loaded tires or ballast and chains, depending on your driveway and amount of snow you get.

I agree. The quick attach plow is the better, more convenient option. Especially if you want to switch back and forth. Also the loser mounted one would allow you to stack snow higher. The frame mourned plow only lifts so high.

It is a very good plow and works great. The only drawback is switching from loader to plow and back again.

I’d consider leaving the hoses on the hangers and bolting the whole hanger in, instead of routing the hoses each time. It looks like the rear hanger would be easier than the front. Either way, I’d maybe come up with a modified plate to make it easier than routing all four hoses each time. Thanks for the video.

Great idea! I'm currently testing using small bungee loops to simply gather the hoses and hook to the pigtails. It's definitely easier than routing them through every time 🤠👍

Great video. You made me laugh as I wear the same coveralls with the goggles as you and live in upstate New York. I and have and would tackle the size storm the same way you did. The only thing difference is that I have a tractor mounted radio so I wear headphones and listen to classic rock. I have a John Deere X595 with a 42" plow with a rubber edge on the bottom which works great on the blacktop and grass. I don't use shoes on the plow and the rubber edge works like a squeegee.

I can not wait till we get a real driveway! So jealous! The gravel drive is definitely a hassle. I don't want to pave / concrete it till I build my 2nd garage. Hopefully that will happen this summer! Should make great content if it does. Thanks for watching! Hope we're done with this snow sooner than later!

Cool little plow but I personally would have left the loader on get the snow Banks higher and further back.. but in your case if that's the biggest snow you've had in 30 years you're good.. in my case we get snow like that every other week for about 8 months. But it was fun watching thanks for the video

I've been trying to decide on which plow blade to get. I think I'm leaning toward the skid steer q/a blade since I have the 3rd function on my loader. This is my first year with a tractor.. and we've had a mild winter so far so I'll probably wait till next season to get it. We're getting snow today/tonight.. but its our first measurable snowfall here in MA this year. I'm planning to use the bucket for this storm (I have the edge tamers on it). Great video tho.. thx for sharing.

I was just saying to my wife this morning if I went back, I would get an ssqa mounted plow. I also have a 3rd function and the ease of putting it on and taking it off would be a game changer. I love how the frame mounted plow performs but I agree 100% with what you said. Get the loader mounted plow 👍

I don't have a plow. I have a snow blower on my lawn tractor. It does great and will throw the snow well away from the driveway. As you would find out if you kept getting lots of snow, your driveway will get narrower and narrower as the plow can't get the snow far enough away from the driveway like a snow blower will do. That said, I only get to use the snow blower maybe once or twice a season at the most. Was it worth the $1500? Maybe, maybe not. It really depends on how much snow you get, and if you have the space to pile snow with a plow VS blowing it away from the driveway with a blower. I've had the snow blower for about 4 years...I really needed it 5 years ago when we had 2 feet of snow in the driveway LOL. I really wish I would have gotten a plow as well for the storms with less snow as my snow blower is a 3 stage, so you really have to force a lot of snow through it for it to work properly, snow less than about 8 inches its really not worth using a blower on and many of our snow storms the past few years have been 3-4 inches or less. Anything less than about 3 inches and I don't bother with it at all. A plow would be a much better solution in many of the storms we get here in southwestern Idaho...but the snow plow goes down our road and throws all the snow into the driveway...you ain't getting through that with a snow plow, that's why I got the blower as it will chew its way through those drifts. I have a gravel driveway and modified the blower cutting edge with a piece of pipe so its not digging in and picking up the gravel. It seemed to work really well this year. I now have a Kubota BX2680, but I didn't get any snow equipment for it since I have the blower for the lawn tractor. So my BX has just been out in the shop hibernating since November LOL. I've been thinking about getting a rear blade for it which would work for snow removal and other grading tasks, but like everything else its never on the forefront of the purchasing list, and always run out of extra $$$ before I run out of projects LOL. That loader dolly looks great, but in my case would be useless LOL. I don't have a nice garage with a concrete floor to move stuff around like that, and those wheels would just sink into the gravel driveway and there it would sit HAHA!! I've taken my loader off twice as a hmm, let's see if I can do this type thing....nope, not the best of experiences for me, and I really have no reason to remove the loader as I don't have anything that would require loader removal. I have pallet forks but that's just simply dropping the bucket and hooking up the forks...love the quick attach on the loader, sure saves a lot of time. If only the quick hitch for the 3 points was as quick as they claim HAHA!!! Another thing I've learned isn't exactly the way they say it is. My 3 point arms don't lower enough to be able to pickup an implement from the ground if I'm using the quick hitch, the thing doesn't drop far enough to grab the pins of the attachment...so I have to put my attachments/implements on pallets to get them high enough for the quick hitch to work. Wish I would have known that before I spent $400 on the quick hitch.

The more I use that plow in this deep snow, the better I feel about it. A snowblower would be nice but I think it's overkill for my area. Thanks for the comment!!!

I have the 3 point fast hitch as well and I’ve found it to be absolutely worthless. Most of my 3 point equipment is old so it won’t work. It’s sitting in the barn brand new and has never touched a implement.

What rpm do u plow at , ive been doing around where it says loader on the rom gauge , i will agree it has been a plow this is the first year we have used it and our bx2380 has turf tires and only time we have gotten stuck is when going to deep in a pile and the plow feet get hung up in the snow , saying Hi from NW PA :)
@samsdoinstuff
@samsdoinstuff 2 жыл бұрын
Hello neighbor! I plow at higher rpm's like between 2500-3000. That's about where I mow too. I find if I can get some good momentum in high gear it does better because the plow is throwing the snow off to the side.

Question: Do you feel your tractor plow combination would perform any better with some ballast or wheel weights on your tractor? I saw some tire spin at the top of the video. I have a BX2230 from 2006, so essentially same horsepower, and a local Townline Equipment franchise just last week installed a used BX2812 plow I found (with a BX2810 quick attach). Full disclosure, they did some welding to extend the front of my frame 2 inches further from the front of my tractor so that the quick attach could be mounted and work as desired, but all the other dimensions worked, even the bolt holes on the front of the frame lined up for the BX2810… But I ask about ballast because your tractor may weigh a little more. Or is ballast only really advisable when you absolutely have to drive across an incline instead of uphill / downhill? A friend of mine suggested I get wheel weights, but watching your video, you got through 15” no problem. I live in Vermont, so we can get 12-15” just about once every winter, and this will be my first winter using the plow. Also, as you mentioned at the end of the video, I had a plow for my truck for about 5 winters, but found using my front end loader better (before getting the plow) because the truck and plow was a longer, harder to turn around / maneuver than my BX, and less visibility out of the cab compared to sitting on the Kubota… I don’t mind bundling up for sitting in 20-25 degrees. Just take a couple breaks and get some dry gloves and hot coffee to warm up. Great video, thanks for posting. I’ve referred to it a couple times already..

@samsdoinstuff 9 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! Yes, more weight will definitely get you more traction. I mow (well, used to) with my BX so I wanted the tractor as light as possible. Ballast on the 3 point hitch would actually take weight off of the front end, so that may not be what you want. No matter what or how much snow you get, I've found I can take off the top layer and go back and make another pass to get down to the surface. Any way you look at it, it sure beats shoveling!!! 😁👍

Did you need chains, when you plowed that deep snow. I only used my bucket during the same storm last season and didn't use chains. The front wheels where my only issue, when trying to turn and push snow. The tractor just kept going straight . Looking for a similar plow this season.

I did not use chains. Had to take small bites at first but once I got down to the gravel, it pushed it away just fine. I was very impressed!

Do you have to remove the mower deck FRAME to get the quick hitch to set right? Mine has a mower deck frame..not the deck but the frame it attaches to in the way of the front quick hitch. It won’t swing back all the way to get that big pin in it bc of a bracket on the deck frame
@samsdoinstuff
@samsdoinstuff Жыл бұрын
I do have to remove the mower deck in its entirety including the 2 pieces that attach the mower deck to the front frame. After that, there is nothing in the way of installing the 2 parts of the plow to the dealer installed bracket connected to the front frame. I hope this helps 👍

As much as you would like a plow setup on you FEL ssqa, it will definitely not perform as well as your current setup. It can be done but take some notes from how I do FEL plows to make them work better. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIqYmYKEotChf8k.

I'm still debating this in my head. I love that plow. It's not so difficult to put on or take off that it's not worth it. Running the hoses is the most difficult part, but I just heard someone say they use the bungee cords with the balls on them to manage the hoses. Might be worth a shot 😁👍
