Luckily, the dad was able to turn down the situation. Fuyu is definitely the embodiment of a spoiled upper class, noble girl who thinks she's better than most people. Thank God her son and daughter do not take after her in any way shape or form. In fact, they even downright dislike her. Kiyoka Sister even dislikes their mother. And you know how cheerful she is that goes to show that even she does not tolerate that behavior.

I think I only stayed because I found Kudo and the magic concept of the series interesting^^' I actually hoped there would have been some character development at the end of the first season, but seeing this now... :/

That's exactly my point. Miyo should weaponise her bad experiences against his mother and stand up for herself. If she just lets Kiyoka defend her, she won't be able to prove towards his family and him, why she is a worthy wife.

The last time she stood up for herself the last of her birth mom’s stuff was crushed by her step mother, she was locked in a shed for who knows how long and the only maid who cared about her got fired. Then when she stood her ground and refused to break her engagement to Kiyoka she was tortured by her sister and step mother. Plus with how his mother acts, she’d probably be even harsher than her step mom and sister which would cause Miyo to relapse even more.

There is a reason why PTSD is a thing, and trauma can shape daily responses that seem out of the norm for most people. Mio is naturally demure, humble, soft-spoken, and self-conscious who is unassuming of her place anywhere-let alone the family of the husband she dearly cherishes. She grew up cherishing her mother as the only source of happiness in a family that didn't want her, so this tension between Kiyoka and his mother is even more complex for her to tackle.

I can see you points but Miyo has had too much done to her to be able to properly stand up for herself. @@missstranger7697 Wrong. In the LN and the manga, the mother is introduced as a 'modern' Japanese woman of the Taisho Era. And she is very high maintenance. She is the reason why he decided to live in a modest home and rejected all the proposals from elite family. He hated every woman that resembles his mother. Miyo win his heart by being down to earth and 'traditional', allowing him to feel some sort of feminine care. Something that his mother never gave him, maternal attention. But from looking at this, he is also too similar with his mother but in the completely opposite direction.
